Historia
Joel and Jethro. Roommates. Total hunks. Inseparable friends. Hot as hell. Meet my fantasy boyfriends. Aren't they just the sexiest, cutest thing? I know, right? They totally are. They are hot, too hot for a quiet - and obsessed with them - girl working in a bookshop. That'd be me, by the way. There's also the tiny problem of Joel wanting another girl. And as for Jethro, well...he doesn't do girls. Or maybe he doesn't do relationships.

Dear penthouse...
Revisado: 11-06-22
This was recommended to me as a romance novel about polyamory. However, alas: a threesome fantasy does not a polyamory make. Also, hours on hours of throbbing sex does not a romance make. And the writing could use some edit - characters jumped frequently between high literature and spoken slang, both in conversation and in thought. All in all I did not enjoy, but if your hot for a menagerie of clicks and kitties - maybe it's the book for you...?

Historia
Sandra Foster studies fads and their meanings for the HiTek corporation. Bennett O'Reilly works with monkey group behavior and chaos theory for the same company. When the two are thrust together due to a misdelivered package and a run of seemingly bad luck, they find a joint project in a flock of sheep. But a series of setbacks and disappointments arise before they are able to find answers to their questions - with the unintended help of the errant, forgetful, and careless office assistant Flip.

So good! So chaotic!
Revisado: 05-22-22
I read this book over 20 years ago, and all I remembered was a study on fads, a really annoying assistant, and that it was REALLY Good, but I couldn't remember why. Halfway past the book I was reconsidering this memory as possible nostalgy and reflection due to Willis' time travel books, which are great and I KNOW why they are great.
And then the climax comes, and my mind was blown all over again. It's a great feeling, to have your mind blown by a book.

Historia
Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases - a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with as well as way less experience in the dating department than the average 30-year-old. It doesn't help that she has Asperger's and that French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. She decides that she needs lots of practice - with a professional - which is why she hires escort Michael Phan.

A crescendo of fragile masculinity
Revisado: 04-16-22
The premise is good. I like the idea of a strong, albeit socially awkward autistic trying to better her skill via meticulous practice. But as the book progressed there were more and more incidents where Michael basically forced himself on Stella, as if being aroused by him means her explicitly saying "no" is meaningless. This just goes on and on to a level of everything that's bad and toxic about masculinity.
The narrator is really struggling with the Vietnamese, and with distinguishing voices. That was NOT good either.
The only reason it's getting a 2 instead of 1 is that I guess if you don't mind toxic cringe, the writing is relatively fluent and the sex is sexy. Other than that I see no reason to read this.

Historia
This epic novel by master writer James Clavell, loosely based on the Namamugi Incident and Anglo-Satsuma War that took place in the late 1800s, is a richly researched, panoramic view of Japan’s budding relationship with the Western powers, its sweeping societal changes, and the political upheaval that followed.

35 hours exposition
Revisado: 04-22-20
I'm not sure what to think about this book. On the one hand, it's another fine Clavell piece with as much twists and cunningness as his previous ones. On the other, this great plot comes after literally 35h of exposition, of setting up the background of the characters before they mature enough to the cunning level he loves. So meh. Not a must.

Historia
Dirk Struan rose from humble beginnings to build Struan & Company, also known as the Noble House, into the world’s largest Far East trading company. He is now the Tai-Pan—Supreme Leader—of all Tai-Pans in China. Along the way, however, he made a powerful enemy. Tyler Brock, Struan’s rival from their early opium-smuggling days, also heads a large trading fleet, second in size only to Struan’s. But it is not only silks and spices that drive their mutual companies’ wealth—the opium trade is still booming. War between England and China might be over, but the hostilities remain.

Amazing book, amazing telling
Revisado: 09-16-19
I missed such great writing as Clavel presents in his books, and Jackson complement it perfectly with his unique narrative of each of the dozens of chief characters in the book. Truly amazing.

Historia
Convicted criminal James Griffin-Mars is no one's hero. In his time, Earth is a toxic, abandoned world, and humans have fled into the outer solar system to survive, eking out a fragile, doomed existence among the other planets and their moons. Those responsible for delaying humanity's demise believe time travel holds the key, and they have identified James, troubled though he is, as one of a select and expendable few ideally suited for the most dangerous job in history.

Good book, but feels like Captain Kirk reads it
Revisado: 12-18-18
Really, the story is good and all, but the performance was irritating. Stops and commas everywhere, and you could hear when a recording session just started from the way he narrated normally, and then started to get caught up in the book and got back on his Shatner ways. A live example of how a performance turns a good book into mediocre.

Historia
Ulysses is regarded by many as the single most important novel of the 20th century. It tells the story of one day in Dublin, June 16th 1904, largely through the eyes of Stephen Dedalus (Joyce's alter ego from Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man) and Leopold Bloom, an advertising salesman. Both begin a normal day, and both set off on a journey around the streets of Dublin, which eventually brings them into contact with one another.

Great reading, hard listening
Revisado: 11-08-17
While both narrators are wonderful for their parts, and they transfer the variability of writing styles and psychedelicness of the book, it was really difficult to follow as a book. Too many things happen too often in people's head and you can't tell when's what.
