Historia
In April 1942, Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew, is forcibly transported to the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau. When his captors discover that he speaks several languages, he is put to work as a Tätowierer (German for tattooist), tasked with permanently marking his fellow prisoners. Imprisoned for more than two and a half years, Lale witnesses horrific atrocities and barbarism - but also incredible acts of bravery and compassion. Risking his own life, he uses his position to exchange jewels and money from murdered Jews for food to keep his fellow prisoners alive.

Another wonderful book of Heather Morris. Thank from my heart. I am also Slovak and I was always wondering what has happen to Slovak Jewish people during the WWII. I remember, it was such a Taboo to talk about! As a child passing a former Synagogue I always wondered what did we Slovaks do to our Jews. My heart aches knowing that nation that is proud to be loving and welcoming had such a easy way of disposing of their Jews and also Romas.
I am grateful to learn about survival at least of some and wishing their descendants love, compassion and forgiveness. May this part of history never repeats itself.

Historia
Mary Lennox starts her life as an unhappy victim of circumstance. After the loss of her parents, she moves to rural Yorkshire to live with a distant uncle where she resents the wildness of the countryside. At first, she struggles to find a place in this new existence. Although unsure about her surroundings and its occupants, through the gentle guidance of the maid she gradually becomes interested in the story of Mrs Craven, who apparently used to spend her time in a garden at the house, the key to which has vanished.

Secret Garden is a treasure
Revisado: 12-23-22
I never read this story before although it is a classic and I knew about it for a long time. I love every line of this wonderful book! What a treasure! What a rich “word-garden” of colorful and delighted “word-flowers.” So easily imaginable and so endearing. Thank you Audible.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Eye opening book
Revisado: 12-12-22
This is a book that doesn’t speak just about past systems that suppressed democracy, it made me aware how easily can our current system be manipulated to something else than a democracy. Also, I am aware, how important is it to speak up to any twisting and changing of the constitution and the bill of rights. It made me realized that no system is immune to corruption and one needs to stay vigilant and actively participate in citizen’s rights.

2057. Humanity has raised exploiting the solar system to an art form. Bella Lind and the crew of her nuclear-powered ship, the Rockhopper, push ice. They mine comets. And they're good at it. The Rockhopper is nearing the end of its current mission cycle, and everyone is desperate for some much-needed R & R, when startling news arrives from Saturn: Janus, one of Saturn's ice moons, has inexplicably left its natural orbit and is now heading out of the solar system at high speed.

Pushing the limits of credulity
Revisado: 07-07-21
** spoiler alert ** I'm not sure where Alastair Reynolds was coming from on this one. I really like Blue remembered Earth, but this one? It has some nice concepts, and a good outline of a plot, I guess, but the female lead characters are utterly petty and insulting, and there's a lot of predictable shlock. It was still somewhat enjoyable until the towards the end, where it apparently becomes a comedy or something? Seriously, it teeters on hitchhikers guide to the galaxy silliness without seeming to be trying to? I can't explain it. Musk dogs. Seriously, as an "advanced species"? Give me a break.
John Lee, the reader was fine.

Historia
In Erin Brockovich’s long-awaited book — her first to reckon with conditions on our planet — she makes clear why we are in the trouble we’re in, and how, in large and practical ways, we each can take actions to bring about change. She shows us what's at stake, and writes of the fraudulent science that disguises these issues, along with cancer clusters not being reported. She writes of the saga of PG&E that continues to this day, and of the communities and people she has worked with who have helped to make an impact.

Why do authors read their own books?!
Revisado: 03-23-21
This book has, undoubtedly, important information and seems reasonably well written, but listening to it did not work at all for me. Almost any decent reader might have gotten me through this book. She is ok in interviews, but like most authors, she just can't read her own book and make it interesting.

Fermi paradox fun
Revisado: 09-26-17
Very interesting take on the Fermi paradox and first contact. Plenty of drama and science woven together to make a satisfying and fun book. Great voices to match the good characters.
