Historia
"Forty-four percent of the American population is convinced that Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead sometime in the next 50 years," writes Sam Harris. "Imagine the consequences if any significant component of the U.S. government actually believed that the world was about to end and that its ending would be glorious. The fact that nearly half of the American population apparently believes this...should be considered a moral and intellectual emergency."

BRAVO!!! BRAVO!!!
Revisado: 03-23-22
what a much needed "letter." its sad to know that in reality those people that need to hear this the most most likely wont listen to it or would stop listining after the first two minutes...i personally would like to think that most humans are fairly smart and ive always wondered why and how these "fairly smart people" live their lives and the lives of those they love based on one or another or any type of "god" or "higher power" that for some reason created the earth, nature, animals, and of course man and woman (from a handful of dirt or a drop of blood or however magicial means) and then decided to demand we worship him/her, sends his "firstborn" to die for our souls eternal salvation and adds what seems to be a forevr growing list of "commandments" that we as humans HAVE TO FOLLOW LEAST WE BURN IN HELL FOR ETERNITY... Sam Harris does a beautiful job of giving examples and explaining the absolute ridiculousness of religion of any type... you will quickly read that these topics could be taught to a child and they would understand it...
one of the topics he covers is one ive held close for nearly my whole life when he voices that americas children are being raised to become a "society of ignorance" due to the unbeliveable grasp that the belief in an imaginary friend and the overwhelming support from a christian controlled government have over america...and dont worry he does not stop there...he covers the depressing problems created by religious belivers all around the world...
Jordan Bridges...WELL DONE!!! the tone of his voice is applaudable in its self...the way he reads the audio version of this book is attention grabbing...hes so clear, he doesnt stumble, and he delivers Sam Harris message in a way that kept me glued to this book...
if your looking for a good read, a healthy serving of rational thoughts, and a truckload of undeniable facts that shine a spotlight on the ridiculous, depressing, and the destructive power that religion has on humans around the world, then this is the "letter" for you!!!
i truly hope you all enjoy this book as much as i did...
...ENJOY...

Historia
In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

Revisado: 02-26-22
I've been going through a time in my life where I've felt held back and laden down with alot of excessive do's and dont's...i was raised in a very religious family in Utah... after years of s struggling through life compairing my life with my siblings and feeling that i just didn't meet the mark, i read this book... Christopher Hitchens laid it all out in terms i understood...i I've since freed myself from the clutches of religion and i feel so free, like I'm flying!!! this was a GREAT book and i would recommend it for anyone with questions or even if you question any part of your life... this book answers questions... enjoy, and good luck...

Suppose - just suppose - it was the technology to take a pod to Mars? Yeah, now we're talking! Bob Odenkirk is a legend in the comedy-writing world, winning Emmys and acclaim for his work on Saturday Night Live, Mr. Show with Bob and David, and many other seminal television shows. This book, his first, is a spleen-bruisingly funny omnibus that ranges from absurdist monologues ("Martin Luther King Jr.'s Worst Speech Ever") to intentionally bad theater ("Hitler Dinner Party: A Play"), from avant-garde fiction ("Obit for the Creator of Mad Libs").
