Historia
Years have passed since the devastating war tore through the heart of the Settled Territories, reshaping the balance of power in ways previously unimaginable. Yet, tranquility remains elusive as the looming threat of the Domes, ancient prisons harboring horrors rivaling that of Hastur, edges closer to unleashing chaos upon the world.

Just don’t. Seriously
Revisado: 03-01-25
I turned this crap off with about an hour left of the book because I realized I absolutely did not care how it ended. I had it on as background noise and halfway paid attention because if I paid full attention I would’ve turned it off long before then.
Things I’ve noticed:
1. The writer gets obsessed with certain words. Almost like a kid learning their first cuss word and they run around saying it all the time. I would love to know the word count for the word “time”. Once you notice his constant repetition of words you can’t block it out.
2. Writer spends hours upon hours trying to sound like this deep , mindful philosopher and will keep droning on and on about how this connects to that or this is like this because this happened. Dude seriously, have you ever heard of the K.I.S.S. Keep. It. Simple. Stupid. method? You can say bad guy kills person “X” and now person “Y” is pissed. You don’t need to go into an hour long inner monologue about how it brings up old feelings and how his mother never bought him a chocolate when he was a wee boy.
3. Lots of hours of description and what you call world or system building doesn’t mean anything if there’s never a pay off. These characters are literally ice skating uphill. They power up , gain new insights, lose the fight. Wash rinse repeat.
This book was an absolute waste of a credit. Will not be continuing this series.

Historia
Humanity's days are numbered. Earth is on a collision course with the one-hundredth anniversary of first contact with the invasive species that unleashed the Mist into its atmosphere. Spreading like a virus, these nanites altered the very air and soil of the planet, poisoning the land and mutating the animals. People evolved beyond their biology into superhuman beings, while scientific advancements in technology and weaponry shifted the hierarchies of the world's most powerful nations. While armies battle to create a new order, the aliens are left free to leech Earth's natural resources.

20 hour Trauma Dump
Revisado: 09-07-24
I’ve enjoyed the series so far but this book was such a slog. The action parts were good and exciting but for every action chapter there seems to be 3 chapters of trauma dump and self loathing. I get that self reflection is a thing and it helps with character growth but this is insanely excessive.
The other thing that started to get under my skin was how she supposedly loves Pick yet it’s a blatant toxic relationship. She loves him and says she trusts him and his opinions but only as long as his feelings align with hers. Anytime he tries to talk her out of a dumb action she tells him tough, deal with it because I’m stronger than you, learn to stay in your lane. Eventually he doesn’t even try to voice his opinion and becomes a doormat. But he loves her because she tells him she loves him. Good grief if that’s not toxic I don’t know what is.
The narration is really good but the story is really lacking this time around.
