Historia
What’s in a label? Are we the product of our upbringing or do we have a natural propensity towards good or evil? The eternal question of nature vs nurture is at the centre of Dr Diane Buckley’s world. A talented freelance forensic psychologist who has never quite found the key to engaging with people on a casual level, she is drafted in to examine a grisly murder – a body found in a children’s playground.

Quite good
Revisado: 02-08-19
For a free offering this is quite good. I did not find it frightening at all. The adaption was very good. Some of the twists in the story were a little, shall we say, mildly unclear. But, eh, the price was right.

Historia
Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases - a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with as well as way less experience in the dating department than the average 30-year-old. It doesn't help that she has Asperger's and that French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. She decides that she needs lots of practice - with a professional - which is why she hires escort Michael Phan.

A romantic, sexy and fluffy story
Revisado: 01-27-19
Romantic stories, sexy or otherwise are definitely not my cup of tea. However, this one caught me off guard and intrigued me from the start. Having some knowledge about persons on the autism spectrum was part of the attraction of finding out how Ms. Hoang would proceed. She hit it well for an inside the park home run. The narrator, once I listened to her for the first few chapters sounded better to me and was absorbed by the story and less obvious in her reading as she changed character voices. Well done.

Very good stories
Revisado: 01-26-19
Fast-pace stories with interwoven characters reflecting the reality of urban living for American Indians in Oakland, California. The author writes with humour, compassion and understanding of the obstacles experienced by most culturally displaced individuals. The narration by different readers was excellent.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Excellent!

A refreshingly different story that incorporates nature writing, interesting character development and a mystery in the middle of it all. A really well drawn portrait of human nature.
The narration by Cassandra Campbell is superb.

I remember as a child reading adaptations of these stories. Now, 60 years later to listen to lengthier renditions was a pleasure. This full cast version is terrifically done and I look forward to Volume II for more stories.

Historia
In December 2017 the famous porn star August Ames committed suicide in a park in the Conejo Valley. It happened a day after she’d been the victim of a pile-on, via Twitter, by fellow porn professionals - punishment for her tweeting something deemed homophobic. A month later, August’s husband, Kevin, connected with Jon Ronson to tell the story of how Twitter bullying killed his wife. What neither Kevin nor Ronson realized was that Ronson would soon hear rumors and secrets hinting at a very different story - something mysterious and unexpected and terrible.

Tragic
Revisado: 01-07-19
This is a sad, tragic story. I thought that Jon Ronson was measured in his approach and presented what was shared in a fairly balanced manner. The porn industry is a problematic part of our society, which is not going away any time soon. August's death is one of many. It is a statistic added to those who died before her and those, sadly, who will die after her. May they all R. I. P.

Historia
Kiese Laymon is a fearless writer. In his essays, personal stories combine with piercing intellect to reflect both on the state of American society and on his experiences with abuse, which conjure conflicted feelings of shame, joy, confusion, and humiliation. Laymon invites us to consider the consequences of growing up in a nation wholly obsessed with progress yet wholly disinterested in the messy work of reckoning with where we’ve been.

Wow! This book bowled me over
Revisado: 01-07-19
Heavy is like nothing I've read before. It is an emotional letter written to a dysfunctional mother by a dysfunctional son. It is a story of lives that I, as a white Canadian man cannot relate to. I may intellectually say that "I understand", but I do not. This is an honest look at racism and addiction that is beyond my reality, but which does not negate the need for discussion, dissection and reckoning.
No one could have narrated this book with the impact and feeling of the author. It totally grabbed me and did not let me go until I listened to the whole story in one sitting. Wow!

Pure, unadulterated escapist fun
Revisado: 01-04-19
Joe Ide has written an excellent sequel to IQ, his first book. Sure, there are unrealistic passages and an absence of regular police presence or acknowledgement, but that is the precise reason for the fun in this book - - pure fiction. I enjoyed it a lot!
The narration by Sullivan Jones is superb. He has the right intonation and accents development ability to make the story come across as real. Very well done all around.

Historia
Korede is bitter. How could she not be? Her sister, Ayoola, is many things: the favorite child, the beautiful one, possibly sociopathic. And now Ayoola’s third boyfriend in a row is dead. Korede’s practicality is the sisters’ saving grace. She knows the best solutions for cleaning blood, the trunk of her car is big enough for a body, and she keeps Ayoola from posting pictures of her dinner to Instagram when she should be mourning her “missing” boyfriend. Not that she gets any credit. Korede has long been in love with a kind, handsome doctor at the hospital where she works.
