Historia
Sand, salt, iron, copper, oil, and lithium. These fundamental materials have created empires, razed civilizations, and fed our ingenuity and greed for thousands of years. Without them, our modern world would not exist, and the battle to control them will determine our future. In Material World, Ed Conway embarks on an epic journey across continents, cultures, and epochs to reveal the underpinnings of modern life on Earth—traveling from the sweltering depths of the deepest mine in Europe to spotless silicon chip factories in Taiwan to the eerie green pools where lithium originates.

Historia
This is the story of a man who said that he would stop the motor of the world - and did. Is he a destroyer or a liberator? Why does he fight his hardest battle not against his enemies, but against the woman he loves? Tremendous in scope, breathtaking in its suspense, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand's magnum opus and launched an ideology and a movement. With the publication of this work in 1957, Rand gained an instant following and became a phenomenon.

Extreme but poignant
Revisado: 07-02-21
While extreme in its portrayal of the mind of the producers vs the minds of the craven yet powerful beggars, it points toward the direction that mankind should pursue. (less a few anachronism of the past)
I agree with Rand in most respects but with a few addendums:
Corporations should be taxed as sales tax; very low (<10%). To avoid "To Big To Fail": as a company reaches 2% National GDP the tax rate should increase to 15%, continuing linearly there after.
As a further affront to Rands ideology I believe UBI (Universal Basic Income) should be provided to every one, me you, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, every one in the form of Dollars with no restriction of its use.... but very low. This is in place of all existing entitlement programs (ie no unemployment, no food stamps, no Social Security, no minimum wage) UBI should be equal to the amount that 6 adults could live in the National Average price of a 1000 square ft house buying it on a 30 year loan, including utilities of water, gas, internet, food and the cheapest smart phone each.

Historia
To contain secrets, American and Soviet leaders created plutopias - communities of nuclear families living in highly subsidized, limited-access atomic cities. Fully employed and medically monitored, the residents of Richland and Ozersk enjoyed all the pleasures of consumer society while nearby, migrants, prisoners, and soldiers were banned from plutopia - they lived in temporary "staging grounds" and often performed the most dangerous work at the plant.

Cautionary Tail of mistakes made in a new field
Revisado: 09-05-19
I'm still a strong nuclear advocate; but some concerns have been voiced by this book which should be addressed. The anecdotal evidence presented in the book does warrant investigation. The lack of epidemicalogical studies involving non-thyroid cancers and mutations should be investigated, and to a large extent has been; but more work remains. The obvious upshot is that we should be careful about waste disposal; be it solar cell heavy metals or petroleum based carcinogens, or radiological active material. Deaths per Terawatt Hour should be evaluated for all energy sources.

I like the book and learned a good deal. I wish more numerical or comparative detail (like Severts, Rads, and background radiation on earth and at 30,000 feet altitude) would have been included.

it seems to be a collection of terms of unrelated
Revisado: 09-01-19
it's not historical, it's not informative, it's not interesting. This book seems to be a collection of unrelated technological terms. it literally has no binding energy.
