An In-depth Study

Excellent dive into the political, economic, and social forces that brought the United States to Civil War. I teach early American history, and I found this book to be very informative. A basic knowledge of this period of U.S. History is necessary to fully appreciate the information in this book.

Interesting Material but Mediocre Narrator

Like many of the Great Courses series, this has some good material. However, the professor who narrates his material is too monotone; too soothing. Be careful if you listen to this while driving, because he will lull you to sleep.

Interesting and Engaging BUT Almost Feels Like 3 Books in One

Like other books in the Killing series, there is lots of good information and the style is very engaging. However, this one feels a bit disjointed at times. The first half of the book is devoted to the Salem Witch Trials. Then, roughly the next third deals with religious liberty within the context of the Revolution and Constitutional Convention. Finally, the book rounds out with the modern account of the true story behind the book and movie, The Exorcist. Everything is tied together at the end of the book, but it’s not exactly clear where things are heading at times. Still, well worth the listen - some very interesting history all around.

A Good Survey of the ACW

This would probably best serve someone with limited knowledge of the American Civil War. However, it has some bits of info that would serve those who are more versed in the subject, as well. Overall, well done.

Fairly Balanced Presentation

Author does a good job of informing on the history of Grizzly Bear-Human conflicts and conservation. He takes a fairly balanced approach, and discusses practical concerns and solutions. Also addresses the tangle of bureaucratic and political issues surrounding Grizzly Bears.

Fantastic Fun & Adventure

This is a great series and Skavenslayer stands out even more. Great story featuring one of the great dynamic duos of fantasy adventure. Action, adventure, and grim humor. Plus, the narration is magnificent!
