Historia
Does nature really make us feel better? The 3-Day Effect takes a look at the science behind why being in the wild can make us happier, healthier, and more creative. Whether it’s rafting down Utah’s Green River, hiking in Utah’s wilderness, or walking through Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC, scientists are finding that the more exposure humans have to nature, the more we can benefit from reduced anxiety, enhanced creativity, and overall well-being.

More reaffirming than earth-shattering
Revisado: 06-09-19
I was hoping for insight but it seemed set out to prove itself right in too much of an overt way.

Learned so much. After visiting the Hartford home a few years ago I was drawn to know more. This just further piqued that interest.

Historia
After almost 20 years of caring for elderly parents - first for their senile father and then for their cantankerous 93-year-old mother - author Plum Johnson and her three younger brothers have finally fallen to their middle-aged knees with conflicted feelings of grief and relief. Now they must empty and sell the beloved family home, 23 rooms bulging with history, antiques, and oxygen tanks. Plum thought, How tough will that be? I know how to buy garbage bags. But the task turns out to be much harder and more rewarding than she ever imagined.

Surprisingly resonant memoir
Revisado: 12-16-16
Such a touching piece about the universal experience of parents aging and moving on after death. I particularly enjoyed Johnson's descriptions of the Oakville home and the relics within. My only frustration was when the performer mispronounced the name Muskoka.

Historia
A sweeping story that transports the listener from a tribal African village to a plantation in the Southern United States, from the teeming Halifax docks to the manor houses of London, The Book of Negroes introduces one of the strongest female characters in recent Canadian fiction, one who cuts a swath through a world hostile to her colour and her sex.

Loved it! this is part of mandatory reading canon for all Canadians. More complete than Alex Haley's Roots anyone interested in the Western World's sordid economic legacy should read this to better understand the sacrifices of African people.

Pippa does it again
Revisado: 04-29-12
I've read almost everything by Philippa Gregory. In The Lady of the Rivers, she takes another historical character, Jacquetta, and sweeps over the major themes in her life as we travel with her from virgin to crone. Jacquetta dabbles in alchemy, herbalism, and because of this book, I will plant my garden differently this year.

Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Time travelling with Stephen King
Revisado: 04-29-12
Would you consider the audio edition of 11-22-63 to be better than the print version?
I enjoyed it so much, I won't even consider reading it in print.
What was one of the most memorable moments of 11-22-63?
I was haunted by the events of Derry.
Which character – as performed by Craig Wasson – was your favorite?
Al Templeton is so ill but so desperate to communicate his last wishes. Craig Wasson is outstanding also as Sadie.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was totally addicted to Stephen King as a teenager, 25 years ago, and this was my first book of his since then. I hope he continues to write in this genre, taking modern people back in time. I loved the nuances of the historical period and he brought Texas, and the late 50s/early 60s to life.
