Solid conceptual framework that lets you easily apply gamification concepts to real world products. As an engineer who's moved to marketing i definitely appreciate that he's taken a topic that is hard to get people to take seriously and applied a rigid analytical framework on top of it. Going through the book I was able to easily take notes on the core principles and come up with a series of actions that I plan to investigate further for improving user engagement on a commercial product that is definitely not a game. I was impressed the concepts transition pretty easily from social media and games to general UX design.

I would ding it a star for how many times he says 'Octalysis', but I'll it back for being able to mathematically show that FarmVille was a crap game that simply plays to addictive tendencies.

Enjoyed it and thought it was an interesting and well done examination of his theories. However they spend well short of an hour on the title concept 'Will to Power', while mentioning that it was actually one of his lesser concepts. Which is fine but that's actually what I was listening for, and would have liked to here a bit more on the subject and how it has been applied and misappropriated.

I won't blame the author because there's nothing wrong with the audio book, but my expectations were far off. Very academic level discussion of the structure of arguments. I was thinking it would be more about debate structure, how to win debates and how to frame arguments, which it was not.

I picked a few useful pieces out, but kindof a slog.

I work in marketing not sales. I bought this book on a whim and immediately started to regret it. I don't like sales basically because of 'hard selling' and figured I'd just signed up for 6 hours of listening to someone tell me to be a dick to people to get what I want.

However my opinion quickly changed, the author covers a lot of very high detail information and provides a believable scientific backing. It also directly talks down the use hard sales tactics and focuses on how to control conversations.

Halfway through the book I started putting the principles to work, by shifting a location of a higher level meeting out of a meeting room and held it instead as a proto walkaround where I could control the flow of the conversation and help dim a few expected challenges.

I've listened through about 10 business audio books, and this one was entirely unique among them.
