Historia
Shari Franke’s childhood was a constant battle for survival. Her mother, Ruby Franke, enforced a severe moral code while maintaining a façade of a picture-perfect family for their wildly popular YouTube channel 8 Passengers, which documented the day-to-day life of raising six children for a staggering 2.5 million subscribers. But a darker truth lurked beneath the surface—Ruby’s wholesome online persona masked a more tyrannical parenting style than anyone could have imagined.

The Most Important Perspective
Revisado: 01-13-25
I'm so impressed with Shari. Her perspective is the most important part of this tragic story. I was honored to read it. Onward and upward to all the passengers.

Right under the noses of neighbors, clients, spouses, children, and friends, a secret society, simply called School—a cult of snared Manhattan professionals—has been led by the charismatic, sociopathic, and dangerous leader Sharon Gans for decades. Spencer Schneider was recruited in the eighties, and he stayed for more than twenty-three years as his life disintegrated, his self-esteem eroded, and he lined the pockets of Gans and her cult.

I don't understand
Revisado: 07-10-24
I'm only half way through, but that's still a few hours of my life. So far zero scandal. He goes to meetings that are a little weird, probably not even the weirdest thing in NYC at the time. Haven't heard one compelling story yet, just weird meeting, weird meeting, weird meeting. And not even interesting weird. Quite boring, not sure what anyone finds interesting about this. I'm going to be so upset if it got juicy at the end, but I just can't put any more time into it.

Pretentious Memior
Revisado: 05-24-24
The author calls it a "story", and you're lead to believe it's a true crime story about his schizophrenic childhood best friend who commits a murder. And, I guess it kind of is, eventually. The author is an academic with an Ivy League education who wanted to be a writer (is a writer), and he makes sure you know it. It's pompous. If you're hoping for true crime, this will bore you. It goes on and on about people you don't know (just 5 mins on them, no character relevence and you're left wondering why they were mentioned at all), pop culture in the academia and mental health fields, with too many metaphors. It should have been 2 books, the true crime story and authors own memior including mental health subject matter from the 70s.

I'm questioning who's crazy
Revisado: 04-10-24
Even as a cat lover and owner, I'm left thinking the author is nuts. No one should be forced to live with feral cats all over their property, and if she loves them so much, why didnt she take them and feed them at her property? Super entitled with an agenda she is forcing on everyone else. Why was this published? Boring. I still listened to the end thinking something was about to change my mind. It never did.
