The Producers F’ed up

I don’t tend to like the general pace of most voice actors or actresses, specifically because they tend to talk a bit too slow for my taste when listening to audiobooks (by when it comes to IRL conversations their pace is normal-ish).

The producers totally messed this up. The male va spoke 2x slower than the female va… or vice versa… and no one fixed it in post.

I either feel like the M VA is speaking backwards or the F VA is on crack if I leave it all at the same speed. I HATE it!

Fantastic experience! But I’m an idiot!

Dang it! I should have looked to see if this was the last in the series before I dove in! It was SO good!! Now I’m left on the edge of the cliffhanger and trying to drag my sorry ass up from it!

The narrators were experts! They did this book and the previous justice! And how can an 18-ish hour book feel like 2?! It was the perfect blend of description, inner monologue and other bits and bobs that somehow wasn’t ‘too much’ in any way.

Fantastic, but…

I wish there were separate narrators for the FMC & the MMC’s… specifically because character perspectives chance mid chapter and the narrator doesn’t do male voices or variations on male voices very well, no offense. She’s great during the FMC bits, but there were times where I couldn’t tell who was talking because it was the same tone of voice ad the FMC… but it was very much out of context when what was narrated with an obvious male perspective, if you catch my drift. 😜

That said, it wasn’t enough to deter me from getting into the book. And it was so stupidly unrealistic but somehow good… lol! I don’t know how to describe it beyond that! That’s how good the author is, I guess? 🤷‍♀️

The most G-rated romance novel, ever

It was a great plot, but zero spice…. The tension was perfection, but when push came to shove, the author threw the wettest of blankets given the genre to et write in. I wish another author took over the last 20% of the book.

Narrator was verging on creepy

I’m not a fan of third person dialogue, but with one deeply baritone male voice narrating all three MC’s… especially with the FMC’s lines… it felt kinda creepy…

I’m verging on thinking it was a lapse in judgment with the production company or author for not hiring another narrator for the female, because the moans from the male during the female dialogue took me out of the book entirely.

I usually finish books in 1-3 days… I had to start and restart this book more than twice bc of the above.

Audio editing lackluster

Whoever edited this book’s audio needs to be fired. There were at least 10 (minimum) instances of the voice actor making adjustments to his tone of voice/annunciation for a section of text and restarted, sometimes more than three times, and all of them were included in the audible version. NONE were edited out! WTF?! It’s jarring to a listener. And have it occur WAY more than deemed acceptable is just sheer laziness. And disrespectful to the author and their listeners. I’m rating the performance way higher than I should because the voice actors were great… production team seems to be lazy twats that need a new job. There are people that would love to have that job… hire someone who gives a shit about contributing to a quality product instead of the complacent “editing” the current employee does. It’s insulting, tbh.

That said….

This book was the equivalent of throwing a everything you own, including a newly purchased red shirt, in the hot wash cycle and hoping for the best. It makes zero sense and nothing comes out unscathed. And it’s obvious from the jump.

I still don’t know what’s happening and I’m almost done.

Bums me out bc I love sci-fi off-the-wall type of books, especially with odd romantic relationships thrown in the mix… but this one was too confusing for even my artistic-centric weirdo brain. I still barely know what’s happening and I’m 98% finished. 😖

Good book but…

There was one stinking word that the narrator got wrong on more than one occasion that drove me nuts.

“Forte” is not pronounced as “fort”. “Fort” (pronounced FOR-t) is something typically children make with random stuff available in a house, like couch cushions, to have an inside version of a tree house… for lack of a better description. A “forte” (pronounced FOR-tay) is a personal trait derived from talent and/or perseverance that someone is known for having.

BIG difference.

It was supposed to be forte!!! 😭

The previous plots shouldn’t be in this book!

I can’t stand the author used the previous plots and characters as part of this book. It didn’t matter (to me) even though I listened to the other books in this series. The other plots bleeding into this book felt like filler and I legitimately skipped them… because, like a relationship that ends, I leave it where it belongs: in the past.

There’s no need to add other previous MC’s faux uneventful plot lines in a book that has LITTLE if not NOTHING to do with the MC’s of this book.

I know “hate” is a strong word, but this writing/book style is very much verging on that for me. I can honestly say that I won’t read anymore of this authors books if they continue this way. It felt like I paid 1 credit for 1/2 of a book… because I didn’t listen to half of the book because the side stories (to me) had barely anything to do with the intended MC’s of the current book. Leave those other characters alone! I didn’t sign up for that shit!

TBH, the narrative of the intended MC’s was good, while we had them… but given my qualm, you’ll understand why I believe we got half the picture.

I’m not going to return this book, but could agree with those that do. This half in the past characters is NOT what I signed up for for “14 hours”… but skipping the nonsense, only got maybe 6… and since I listen at 1.5x… maybe 4?

Not cool.

TBH, I’m kinda peeved… bc I feel like I got jipped…not from this book solely, but this whole series is like this. It’s like a f*caked up soap opera the way it’s laid out. And I don’t have time for that shit. I don’t want to follow all the damn characters through what I thought was an HEA to them, in a book they don’t belong in, being whining wankers when someone looks at someone. It’s stupid and a waste of time.

Ok… you get the gist… I didn’t mean to go as hard as I did, but I’m not sorry for my opinion/commentary.

If an MMF can be cheesy, this is it

I’m pretty sure I rolled my eyes so hard, especially towards the end of the book, that I think I caused myself a headache. It was a total cliche yet totally unbelievable… to the point where I felt it was obnoxious. Bummed I spent money on this, but I’m not a total jerk in the realm of asking for my money back for a book I’ve already listened to. Just know the money I spent would have been better allocated to lunch.
