Historia
A vicious 15-year-old droog is the central character of this 1963 classic, a frightening fable about good and evil, and the meaning of human freedom. In Anthony Burgess' nightmare vision of the future, where the criminals take over after dark, the story is told by the central character, Alex, who talks in a brutal invented slang that brilliantly renders his and his friends' social pathology.

love the 21st chapter
Revisado: 09-27-24
I much prefer the full book, with 21st chapter. It gives meaning to the first 20, emphasizes the circle of life, and provides a satisfying end for our young Alex after he understands the power of choice and is given back free choice

Historia
Who hasn’t wondered for a split second what the world would be like if a person who is the object of your affliction ceased to exist? But then you’ve probably never heard of The McMasters Conservatory, dedicated to the consummate execution of the homicidal arts. To gain admission, a student must have an ethical reason for erasing someone who deeply deserves a fate no worse (nor better) than death. The campus of this “Poison Ivy League” college—its location unknown to even those who study there—is where you might find yourself the practice target of a classmate.

Historia
As a child growing up in North Korea, Hyeonseo Lee was one of millions trapped by a secretive and brutal communist regime. Her home on the border with China gave her some exposure to the world beyond the confines of the Hermit Kingdom and, as the famine of the 1990s struck, she began to wonder, question and realise that she had been brainwashed her entire life. Given the repression, poverty and starvation she witnessed surely her country could not be, as she had been told, 'the best on the planet'?

Fascinating and honest portrayal of a unique immigrant story
Revisado: 08-07-24
Freedom isn't free...this book gives a compelling glimpse into the struggles faced by refugees/immigrants both before and after they leave their home country. It is fascinating and hard to stop listening to once you start!

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Good narration, a bit cheesy
Revisado: 03-03-23
Excellent audio narration. The story was cheesy....good guy always hits his target, yet escapes dozens of near death experiences, including being shot at by trained assassins over and over. A stretch, even by action/spy novel standards. But, entertaining if that is overlooked and excellent use of multiple character perspectives to tell the story.

The narrator is excellent, giving more an acting performance than straight narrative. The genre is not my favorite, so I had trouble reading the book and maintaining interest. But I greatly enjoyed listening to it.

Historia
Judith McMonigle Flynn has vowed to never ever find a dead body again. But she can't turn down a suspicious guest reservation from Mary Smith of New York City. There must be lots of real Mary Smiths, especially in a place as big as NYC... Unfortunately, Judith already knows the woman who shows up at Hillside Manor. It's none other than Ruby Tooms, the world-weary barmaid the cousins met at Oktoberfest. Ruby arrives with some unexpected baggage - a cold case she dumps on Hillside Manor's Persian carpet.

Love this author, and this is another fun story. The narrator is great, but I wish she'd learn Pacific NW words a bit better (geoduck, etc.)

Historia
A woman’s body has been found in a squalid motel. Her driver’s license shows that Dawn Purvis was in her late 30s and lived in Weaverville, California - and the only connection between that town and Alpine is their gold-mining and logging origins. Emma, Milo, and the ever-inquisitive Alpine Advocate receptionist, Alison Lindahl, are curious, though Alison is a bit distracted by the new county extension agent’s good looks. Meanwhile, there’s something strange about the older couple who have moved into the cabin down the road that was once owned by a murder victim.
