Historia
Forty years ago Israeli psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky wrote a series of breathtakingly original studies undoing our assumptions about the decision-making process. Their papers showed the ways in which the human mind erred systematically when forced to make judgments about uncertain situations. Their work created the field of behavioral economics, revolutionized Big Data studies, advanced evidence-based medicine, led to a new approach to government regulation, and made Michael Lewis' work possible.

Another hit! Your family and friends will hate you
Revisado: 02-17-17
Your family and friends will hate you after you listen to this book because you will question everything! Was the sample size large enough? I think you're looking at that wrong!
Mr. Lewis does it again. He brings a rather mundane topic to life by intertwining the very interesting lives of two rather unique academics with the research topic that they loved.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Great story. Better than his show.
Revisado: 02-17-17
I have tried to watch Trevor's show a few times but just don't like it. This book is a another story. Mr. Noah is an exceptional storyteller and his story is exceptional too.

Historia
Joe Goffman was 15 years out from his sleepy hometown when he wrote Bush Falls, a searing critique of its people and institutions. The book was a runaway best seller, and led to an even more successful movie. Now, however, Joe's got a problem. His father has suffered a stroke, and that means that Joe has to go back to his birthplace after having successfully antagonized every person living there. Can Joe survive the reservoirs of hatred that have been waiting to pour down upon him? Just maybe.

Historia
New York, 1888. Gas lamps still flicker in the city streets, but the miracle of electric light is in its infancy. The person who controls the means to turn night into day will make history - and a vast fortune. A young untested lawyer named Paul Cravath, fresh out of Columbia Law School, takes a case that seems impossible to win. Paul's client, George Westinghouse, has been sued by Thomas Edison over a billion-dollar question: Who invented the lightbulb and holds the right to power the country?

A fun intertwining of the biggest names
Revisado: 12-18-16
The author does a fine job of mixing around Edison, Westinghouse and Tesla plus presidents, aristocrats and entertainers to tell a story about how the world was changed through technology. You can argue that certain technologies have changed everything, but the ability to provide light instantaneously is certainly in the top-five. And this story tells how light became ubiquitous in the modern world. Substitute microchip and you have today's world.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Hopeful story. Might be around for ahwhile.
Revisado: 12-18-16
The writer does a good job of capturing the see-saw nature of how the slowly then rapidly the world changes. We've all seen how the old neighborhood has changed. And sometimes gentrification takes over to make it a new neighborhood. But that does not happen everywhere. The writer discusses his modern day success story but he also touches on those who did not make it out of the cycle of poverty. This is not a textbook but it definitely raises questions to think about.

What a strange and wonderful family
Revisado: 12-18-16
As a Sherlock Holmes fan, I wanted to understand if it runs in the family. Yes, Mycroft is a skilled puzzle-solver with equally quirky habits that might not be as self destructive. Kareem brings a different viewpoint to the story when they get out of London. Mycroft's mate is smart, tough and persistent.

Historia
Sinclair Rutherford is a young Seattle cop with a taste for the finer things. Doing menial tasks and getting hassled by superiors he doesn't respect are definitely not "finer things". Good police work and bad luck lead him to crack a case that changes quickly from a career-making break into a high-profile humiliation when footage of his pursuit of the suspect - wildly inappropriate murder weapon in hand - becomes an Internet sensation.

Fun, entertaining cops and sort of superheroes
Revisado: 03-22-16
Not just another cop book, this is a story about near superheroes and a brave cop who does the right thing and ends up on a different crime solving team. The mystery to be solved is not too heavy. The interaction and origin story of each character is interesting. Definitely worth the listen.

Historia
The Great Recession has shuffled Clay Jannon out of his life as a San Francisco Web-design drone - and serendipity, sheer curiosity, and the ability to climb a ladder like a monkey has landed him a new gig working the night shift at Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. But after just a few days on the job, Clay begins to realize that this store is even more curious than the name suggests. There are only a few customers, but they come in repeatedly and never seem to actually buy anything....

Good fun but could do without all that Google stuf
Revisado: 04-20-15
Penumbra is good clean fun that got a little repetitious with all those Google references. Other reviews mention the geekiness of the book but there is nothing so technical that an engaged listener would find too complicated. The characters are fun and quirky. The concept is definitely fun and quirky. The really neat stuff actually happens offline. Definitely worth a fun and easy listen. But sometimes I felt like I was listening to the audio book version of the Internship movie starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson because the author mentions Google-this and Google-that a lot.

The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Liked the style. Loved the accents. Kind of gory.
Revisado: 02-20-15
Most of the gory stuff comes at the end, so the style and story will push you through. Written/spoken in the voices of the main characters over a period of time, the book is a mystery wrapped in the unraveling of many people's lives. It is kind of hard to hear the characters spiral but hey, it's fiction. Definitely worth the listen. Because this is a audio book it is hard to keep up with the dates...no biggee.
