Historia
Birdie Binkowitz is just a little bitter. As a young actress, she was the toast of Hollywood, definitely destined for greatness. Then the dragons had to rise up from their thousand-year slumber, take over Earth and ruin everything. Twenty years later, Birdie is living her worst life in her hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, working at her father's Seed and Feed (and Bagels). Then, a mysterious dragon appears in front of the store seeking her help. He’s got a bone to pick with his fellow dragons–and he wants to hit them where it hurts.

This was a true binge listen! I truly hope there is a sequel! This was a fun story although the southernese maybe was a bit overdrawn. Still a fun, fun listen!

Historia
Miss Mildred Percy is a spinster. She does not dance, she has long stopped dreaming, and she certainly does not have adventures. That is, until her great uncle has the audacity to leave her an inheritance, one that includes a dragon’s egg. The egg—as eggs are wont to do—decides to hatch, and Miss Mildred Percy is suddenly thrust out of the role of “spinster and general wallflower” and into the unprecedented position of “spinster and keeper of dragons.” But England has not seen a dragon since…well, ever.

A Lovely Story Worth the Listen
Revisado: 02-17-23
I do love stories of brave people doing the ordinary (and extraordinary) tasks of living with courage and care for one another (and dragons as appropriate). This is one of the best. When I'm interested in a quiet listen, this one fills the bill today and will again. I look forward to listening to the next book In the series. The narrator is just right for the story. No one's perfect...so no doubt something will get (or got out) of order. But that's fine. This one's well worth the credit for me!!! Thanks for the lovely read!!!

Historia
The youngest, half-goblin son of the Emperor has lived his entire life in exile, distant from the Imperial Court and the deadly intrigue that suffuses it. But when his father and three sons in line for the throne are killed in an "accident," he has no choice but to take his place as the only surviving rightful heir. Entirely unschooled in the art of court politics, he has no friends, no advisors, and the sure knowledge that whoever assassinated his father and brothers could make an attempt on his life at any moment.

One of the Very Best!!!!
Revisado: 06-30-21
Katherine Addison, you wrote a story well worth listening to and worth reading multiple times, and I have!! You outdid yourself with this one! In a field of often less than gripping and meaningful stories, The Goblin Emperor tells a meaningful and intriguing story with characters who are worth coming to know and remembering. In a word, I love Mia, I admire his handling of his difficult situation and the man he becomes as the story moves forward. In addition to a kind of coming of age story, there is a murder mystery and a romance....What more could you want!
Now to address the problem of names and how I handled it. Yes, the names are not so easy to sort out, because those names are quite unfamiliar. I cared enough about the story to buy the kindle edition as well, so I could get that visual input as well as the auditory input. That solved that problem. It was worth it!!. We may never hear from Mia again, but I wish we could.
Thanks, Katherine Addison. I owe you gratitude for this gift!

A Listen/Read Worthy of the Quest!
Revisado: 09-25-20
Shopping for a fantasy novel presents itself as a quest in itself! Here is one which made the search worthwhile. The youthful characters have some depth and the suspension of disbelief a seamless experience in the /listening/reading. Holt and Talia adventure enough to make a smashing good story and (hopefully) lead-in to many upcoming follow-up novels without loosing appropriate respect for every gray head in sight. The human villains are thoroughly villainous without entirely losing sympathy. Happily, caricatures have been avoided. In additions the main characters develop as characters should, becoming in the end more than they were at the outset. More importantly I came to care about them. Secondary characters are promising and there are lots of questions remaining to be answered.
The plot thickens nicely. The use of magic and bonds is different from other novels I've read and the description enables clear pictures in my mind. In addition, I could listen, enjoy and picture the inevitable more difficult parts without too much of a desire to not hear what I feared would come. The message is clear and yet not obnoxious.
The narrator did a splendid job with a multitude of voices. I hope to hear him again in the next of the series.
No doubt pickier people will find things not to like. But I was ready to like this book and I did. Worth the credit and the time to listen/read.
On the strength of this book I have gotten other books by Michael R Miller. I hope to hear this tone again. Thank you Michael Miller.

As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends - and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is.

What a difficult joy!
Revisado: 06-30-16
Where does Uprooted rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is among the best books I have read. It has deep roots and implications within an intriguing, sometimes difficult, sometimes amusing story. Good versus evil...the evil within ourselves...ah! the best. Thank you Ms. Novik.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Clearly the young woman who weaves us through this story is of course my favorite. I love her deep ties to her family and home and her courage.
What does Julia Emelin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The accent lent an authenticity to the story that increased its believability.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes...It's hard to put down.
Any additional comments?
I don't enjoy detailed romantic bits and there could be more "fade to black" in those stories. But overall this is not a real problem. I would love to see the "Dragon" more fleshed out as a person, however, this will come no doubt in future volumes. I look forward to reading more.
