Amber s a smart and gifted performer. She does all she can to get attention from as many people as possible. Her ruinous lifestyle seems almost celebrated in this book. She did whatever she desired with little remorse expressed over stealing, cheating, seducing, abusing, lying.and destroying. She repeatedly expressed how much fun she had in this hypersexual drug addicted lifestyle- even though it almost killed her repeatedly and left a wake of destruction all around her. So many abused and mistreated her, she did the same to others.

There is a hero in every story. Amber's Dad driving cross country when she tries to take her own life is the only one I could find. He sounds like a remarkable person.

Her stories are explicit- I kept expecting to hear an epiphany of a turned around life. Instead she finds more ways to do what she desires and get as much attention as possible. I'd not recommend this book.

My hope is she can heal and thrive in a healthy life and see her true beauty, value, and great worth.

The author seems to be trying to convince his child and the rest of us that everything started with us and continues with us and there is no authority over us and so on and so forth. The narration was irritating and the theology is not something I subscribe to.

Solomon Northrup has an articulate elegant way of telling his harrowing story. With Stephen L. Vernon's narrating, I felt as if I was sitting with the author as he told his story at an easy careful pace, so I would not miss anything.

I was riveted by this important story. His faith and heart are evident. Solomon manages to step away from being the hero. Giving quiet but clear credit to God without blaming his Provider.

This story gives insight into a horrific part of American history. It also reminds us of the resilience a person can experience, in the midst of unfathomable injustice and hardship.

I haven't finished the story yet, but find it interesting. There's little to no expression of emotions or insights just a straight telling of facts. Paired with a narrator who overly enunciates every letter t, and sounds very wooden, makes for a rather boring read for such an extraordinary tale of survival.

I listen to the first sections of the book until I could no longer take the sound of the narrator's Voice. My daughter heard it and reacted as I did. Her voice is high, nasally, robotic. I returned the audiobook. I like the content enough to consider buying a paper version.
