Good story that needed to be longer
Revisado: 04-04-15
I enjoyed this story. It really pulled me in, I liked the characters and felt connected to them. Some of the major dramatic moments seemed to happen too quickly, especially the ending, which seemed to come out of nowhere and left me unsatisfied with no explanation. I feel this would've benefited from being longer, as the ideas were great but much of it felt too crammed.

A Great Pirate Adventure!

Great for anyone who enjoys pirate stories
Revisado: 12-17-14
This story is very entertaining and I think anyone who enjoys pirate stories will enjoy this one. It is interesting that the big details I know about Anne Bonny and Mary Read are all incorporated. The author makes them just as awesome as I'd all like to think they were.
The narrator was very good. She had to speak different languages, do many voices, sing songs. I liked it all. I'd seek out further works by her and the author.

Interesting and different
Revisado: 08-23-14
I've never read anything quite like this book. I've read a few books about past lives but this was a different spin. I liked both story lines and how they wove together. I was confused at some points but it wasn't a frustrating experience. The narrator reminded me of the narrator from The Poisonwood Bible, where she did a straight reading more than trying to dramatize it. Some people don't like this, but I find it to be a nice change of pace. As another reviewer said, it did take me out of the story a bit having an American reading a story set place in England.

Historia
The origins, history and authorship of Beowulf are shrouded in uncertainty. This heroic epic probably began, as most do, with a wandering troubadour strumming a stringed instrument, sitting before a hearth-fire, and singing the verses to a spellbound audience arrayed before him. Beowulf is a rousing adventure story, filled with intrepid heroes, monsters and fire-breathing dragons, which can be listened to for the sheer enjoyment of the tale.

An enjoyable listen
Revisado: 05-16-14
I have never read or listened to any translation of Beowulf. I found this translation easy to understand and follow. It's a good story and interesting for it's historic value. I will seek out other translations by this author. The narration wasn't bad, just a little low and slow. It was much better at 1.25 speed, but since I was not familiar with the story, I kept it at regular speed so I didn't miss anything.

Wonderful narration
Revisado: 07-16-12
The story was fun. Good world building and I liked the main characters. I found the secondary characters pretty boring. What really put this book in the great category was the performance, especially for Dr. Impossible. He was fantastic without being hammy. Just thinking of the way he said "Impossible-opolis" still makes me laugh.

Historia
In 1773, 63-year-old literary giant Samuel Johnson joined James Boswell, a 32-year-old Scottish lawyer, on an historic horseback expedition across the Scottish Highlands to the Western Islands. The unlikely duo's travelogue records their fascinating conversations and encounters with great wit and incredible detail. Johnson, one of the 18th century's most celebrated writers, provided an elegant and stately account of everything from Loch Ness's medicinal waters to Scotland's puzzling lack of trees.

Great fun!
Revisado: 08-01-11
I wasn't too keen on 2 narrators at first, I thought the one voicing Samuel Johnson's part used way too much bombast. But before long I loved it and found it completely fit his words and personality. (I knew nothing of the man when I started reading it, if I had I would've realized the reading was perfect right from the get go.) This book was very interesting and funny!
