I’m shell shocked. What the heck just happened?! Book 5 (The Dark Mirror) can’t come soon enough!

I was first introduced to Amie Kauffman through Illuminae and Aurora Rising, which she wrote with Jay Kristoff. When I saw she wrote this book (which I believe is her first solo book?) I immediately preordered it.
After reading her and Jay Kristoff’s previously mentioned series, I should have expected and ending that made me CRAVE the next installment of the series… I didn’t and now here I am HORRIFIED at the thought of waiting an entire year (at least) for the next part of the story.
One of my favorite reads so far this year!

This was my first full cast short story and it was fabulous! I found myself laughing out loud several times at various points of the story. I really enjoyed the banter between Marigold and Robbie. I am looking forward to listening to another one of Cara Bastone’s stories.

Shannon Hale is A StoryTeller Like No Other

I absolutely adored Shannon Hale’s Princess Academy when I was in middle school. I had heard of her other books but never read them until just recently (I’m now 25).

I love how Hale writes her female characters, especially. There’s normally some plot of romance, but these are no damsels in distress. These are young ladies who need a partner— not a hero, and often find it their female companions.

ENNA BURNING is ultimately a story about the love of friends and two young ladies’ journey to save each other.

The narration is pretty good— I enjoy the full cast.
There are a few characters that just sounded SO much younger than I imagine them (Izzie being one of them). This made listening to their parts a little jarring because my brain would scramble to reconcile what I imagined with what I was hearing.

Ultimately, I loved this story and I will ALWAYS recommend Shannon Hale to someone who is looking for strong female characters or a story that is reminiscent of a fairy tale.
