Historia
The Poisonwood Bible is a story told by the wife and four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evangelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo in 1959. They carry with them everything they believe they will need from home, but soon find that all of it - from garden seeds to Scripture - is calamitously transformed on African soil. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family’s tragic undoing and remarkable reconstruction over the course of three decades in postcolonial Africa.

An exciting discovery
Revisado: 10-04-11
I really enjoyed that story told in so many different characters' point of view. I ignored how Us citizens were able to be so compassionate for their African counterparts. Bravo, one of my all time best listening.

Historia
It was a fairy tale come true when Mark Dorn - handsome pilot, widower, tragic father of three - chose Jiselle to be his wife. The other flight attendants were jealous: She could quit now, leaving behind the million daily irritations of the job. (Since the outbreak of the Phoenix flu, passengers had become even more difficult and nervous, and a life of constant travel had grown harder.) She could move into Mark Dorn's precious log cabin and help him raise his three beautiful children. But fairy tales aren't like marriage.

Oh boy! Still 10 chapters to go
Revisado: 10-04-11
Sorry but I have to force myself to go to the end. I'm tempted by abandoning it. The story is non-existent, and it has a taste of deja vu. The only thing that saves my listening is the narrator who's perfect for a foreigner who has English as a second language.

Historia
Listen as Frank tells in his own inimitable voice his story of how at the age of 19 he traveled from Limerick to New York in pursuit of the American dream. Despite the abundance of unsolicited advice he gets to "join the cops" and "stick to his own kind", Frank knows that he should educate himself and somehow rise above his circumstances.

Not really
Revisado: 08-17-10
I've listened to Angela's Ashes with such great pleasure that I jumped on 'Tis. But I haven't been thrilled by it. McCourt uses the same narrative techniques and I felt that the story was a repetition even though the events take place later in his life. His living in America seems drab and I can't identify with a "drunk". Sorry Mr. McCourt but one was enough for me. I won't try your other book on your teaching carreer. Sorry for my English, I'm French.

In the shadow of a best seller
Revisado: 05-16-10
After listening to The Life of Pi, I've decided to buy all the listenings avalaible from this author. Even though the topic is gloomy, the narrative is interesting. I had a lot of pleasure in imagining the taxidermist's shop and the choice of Beatrice and Virgil as metaphors helped me with the reading. Martel certainly chose a very difficult subject but it is done with respect and a total new point of view that made the story original and noteworthy.

What a pleasure!
Revisado: 09-17-09
Living in France I thought that I would discover a brand new world in rural England. In fact people have the same type of preoccupations or way of life. But it was a pleasure to hear that reader who makes us discover the different points of view of this small town inhabitants . Lively and very pleasant, a real bowl of fresh air.
