Historia
Former ace fighter pilot Bree Jagdea’s days of high-octane, white-knuckle dogfights are long behind her. Content with executing supply runs for the war effort, Jagdea considers herself retired. But when enemy forces start a relentless bombing campaign through the hive city of Vesperus, Jagdea is forced back into the Aeronautica – stationed with the infamous Circus 66 squadron, executing near-suicidal dead-drops and blistering interception runs through Vesperus’ lethal rat runs.

That book was 4-A!
Revisado: 03-11-25
This book is gripping in every step, not only because of the awesome characters and story, but through the presentation of a very believable setting.
Abnett's research of the combat aviation world is apparent, just like he did with the infantry in "Gaunt's Ghosts".
And as always, I have only the highest praises for Toby Longworth.

One of the best 40K books.
Revisado: 11-16-24
I've read about 60 40k books, yet somehow this one eluded me until now. The story, the lore, the writing is superb.
I recommend reading it after some familiarity with HH lore, as well as after reading Eisenhorn and Ravenor series (that is a brilliant tie-in!).

Constantin Valdor. It is a name that brings forth images of heroism, honour and peerless duty. For it is he who commands the will of the Legio Custodes that most esteemed and dedicated cadre of elite warriors. He is the Emperor’s sword, His shield, His banner and he knows no equal. Clad in shining auramite, his fist clenched around the haft of his Guardian Spear, he is the bulwark against all enemies of the throne, within or without. Nearing the end of the wars of Unity, Valdor’s courage and purpose is put to the test as never before.

A must read. Full of lore and superbly written.
Revisado: 01-19-24
The only flaw is - it is too short!
This is a fine example of a W40K background book, I just wish we had more of these, shedding light on the pre-herecy era.
Just finished it for the second time after a couple of years, and now I loved it even more.

Even for a Ghosts book, this one is a masterpiece
Revisado: 12-26-23
I love this series, and when I thought Abnett couldn't do more with it, I was happily proved wrong.
It took me maybe 6 evenings to listen to this, and only the need for sleep tore me from the book.
The story is superbly crafted, with old and new arcs mixing together in a spooky and twisty mix.
The characters feel like family to me by now, and each injury or death (spoiler, people die in W40K) was deeply emotional.
Well done, Abnett.

Angron, Primarch of the World Eaters and Herald of Horus, has achieved immortality through annihilation—now he leads the armies of the damned in a wrathful tide, destroying all before them as the warp begins its poisonous corruption of Terra's very soil.

So much lore. So many stories. Worth every minute.
This is not only the story of the endgame of the war on Terra. This is the convergence of many main arcs and characters.
The writing and performance are superb. It has been a long time since I found battles so engaging. I could feel the desperation, the anger, the regrets.
What makes a good book great, is when you know the end and still enjoy it. I enjoyed this one immensely.

This is a must-read for any HH fan. Mortarion's tragic story is compelling and even a bit surprising. Terra is getting ready for the final siege, and the narrative closes many open arcs.
Keeble is at his best, acting all the warp horrors like he was there.

Book after book, Dan Abnett is still, in my opinion, the Grand Master of W40K.

Historia
Legends abound of the glorious - or infamous - deeds of the emperor's sons. Yet almost nothing is known of Alpharius, the most mysterious of them all, for the lord of the Alpha Legion is unparalleled in the art of obfuscation. Such are his gifts of secrecy and deceit that even his rediscovery has remained an enigma - until now. But when the tale comes from the serpent’s mouth, where do the lies end and the truth begin?
