Historia
Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer, wakes upon an altar to find himself incarnated into the overweight body of a farmer who could have been his fatter twin. He’s not the hero. He’s not the villain. He’s certainly not the chosen one who is there to save the world. He’s a clerical error. It could be a bad joke, but apparently, it happens so often that they have a standard procedure for returning you.

Great book, reading and feels like Stephen King
Revisado: 02-18-23
The first couple hours listening I kept thinking the writing style was fairly close to Stephen King, especially the beginning felt like the set up of The Stand. I think the premise was very unique, and very well written. As it went on though it was very obvious Hill is a King fan. Carmidy was the main character in the Long Walk, at some point the True Knot (from Doctor Sleep) was mentioned, so was Shawshank, and a psycho child saying "I wanna play with you" like pet cemetery.
After I finished the book, where in Hills after he mentions growing up with both parents being authors, and his brother Owen King.... I discovered he's not just a King fan, he is a King!
I think I may just have to pick up more of his books, since I've already read about 75% of his father's.
Oh and, the reader Kate Mulgrew killed it! Seriously impressed with her range of voices and Manks voice was soooo creepy, nice job!

Historia
In an effort to delay the frailty and isolation that comes with old age, psychiatrist Millard Salter decides to kill himself by the end of the day - but first he has to tie up some loose ends. These include a tête-à-tête with his youngest son, Lysander, who at 43 has yet to hold down a paying job; an unscheduled rendezvous with his first wife, Carol, whom he hasn't seen in 27 years; and a brief visit to the grave of his second wife, Isabelle. Complicating this plan, though, is Delilah, the widow with whom he has fallen in love in the past few months.

The author was so interesting I had to read it
Revisado: 11-09-22
A few years back I watched a documentary, which I think was a Bitcoin doc… anyways Jacob M. Appel was in it and this guy had a record number of high level degrees and jobs. He’s a; lawyer, doctor, etc, etc, and a writer. Jacob was so interesting that when it was mentioned he wrote a book, I looked it up immediately and added it to my watch list. Just recently it went on sale, I picked it up, and once starting I plowed through it in like 3 days.
I really enjoyed this book, it was very well written, and the reader Joe Barrett was perfect for the part. You know from the title and the first few lines that it’s going to be a little dark, but the constant humor always cuts through the dark. It is mentioned a few times that he is Jewish and that particular humor does show through the whole time, one of my favorite humors. Also the age of Millard was written perfectly and brought to fruition with Joe Barretts voice.
Well done, I would read another Appel book if another is ever written and Audibleized.

“The Outsiders” is the gold that stays
Revisado: 10-30-22
I’ve seen the film a couple times and think it is really good, and it stayed really true to the book… this was my first time reading/listening to it, and learning that it was written by a 16 year old makes it even more impressive. Great book, still as good today as when it was written. Also props to the fact that there was no bad language. Certainly think every teenager should read it.

Stuck with the movie, book just ok
Revisado: 11-30-21
I felt like it took getting well past halfway before the story got interesting. And by the time it was done, I thought the book as a whole was OK...
Aside from the first half being pretty slow and boring, what made the whole bookn like nails on the chalk board, was how upidy English it was written, and the read. The reader did a good job, except this only audio book I've listened to where you can hear the breaks whenever the recording was paused.

Kept waiting for the point
Revisado: 10-25-21
Got this because it was written by Jesse Eisenberg, and the first third which he also read/acted was interesting and done in his typical nervous style. After his section I hoped it would move onto a story, not 1st person recordings.
This whole thing was well written, and an interesting concept... But Ziggy and the wife/mother where very high energy and annoying. It felt like the 3 parts are barely connected.
Aft a few minutes of the 2nd part I wanted to stop listening but I really wanted to get the point, then when the 3rd part started I was dying... I found myself thinking that I'm glad I'm currently single if being in a relationship with this girl was the alternative. And as I finished the book I came away wishing I never listened to it, or at least the last 2/3rds.
I'm sure this book is for somebody, but I'm not sure who that would be.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Not what I expected, not a book for men
Revisado: 06-20-21
I'll just say, after finishing I did like it alright, was all tied up with a bow. It just wasn't what I expected which was something more like rear window. Hearing perspectives from 3 different women started our a little confusing but eventually once I figured out who each one was reletive to each other, it was interesting.
My two biggest criticisms are; the performance of the women that read Anna sounded like a phone message, super flat, and secondly... All of these women were kind of awful, I mean the characters. I think this was more a book by a women, written for women... I found myself hating each one of them, they were all their own worst enemies. The guys weren't model humans either but you weren't in the men's heads.
So yeah, a pretty good story but if I would have known it was a women's book I would have skipped it.

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

If you enjoy Trevor Noah, it's good, but not comedy
Revisado: 10-22-20
I've seen 2 Trevor Noah stand up specials and not only found him Hilarious, but really enjoyed getting to know more about life in South Africa. Admittedly starting this book I expected it to be all funny, and it did have humor in bits throughout, but I'd say only about 5% is meant to be funny. Really good interesting story, informing me much much more about African life and his kinda crazy but amazing mother.
The only negative thing I'll say is that, he doesn't tell his story in chronological order, in parts he does, but he does most of that chapters in themes.... So at times I found what part of his life he was doing, kind of confusing. Like after getting to adulthood he jumped back to when he was 11 and he was working in his step father's shop all the time and not getting his homework in, I found myself trying to figure out between what parts of his life he already talked about, this was happening. I would appreciate a basic time line to look at now to untangle a few periods of time.
But really entertaing read!

Any fan of the film
Revisado: 09-16-20
I've been meaning to read this book for over 10 years but as a huge fan of the film for over 20 years now I was apprehensive... Will it not be as good, or be so much better that the film will become unwatchable?
No spoilers. I'll say that I really enjoyed it, and love that the majority of the most iconic lines in the film were directly from the book, and several that were changed just a bit. The stories are mostly the same however the film did move some things around and have different characters doing some things. The most impressive thing I think, is that the film really did capute the feeling and style of the book, so reading/listening to it feels much like watching the film. Oh, some great lines and scenes in the film are snippets of the book and in the film some lines are hard to understand fully, so now I have clear and much longer quotes that are fantastic!
Which is better? They're both great, and in a few instances the film pulls things together in a way I liked a little more, especially towards the end.
Will definitely listen to this many more times, and I think if I were the author, I'd like what they did with my book.

This was a pretty fun listen, with well timed execution and a full cast performing. Had a lot of really funny lines and banter. Not overly realistic but as a straight comedy, pretty good.
