Historia
Dr. George K. Simon knows how people push your buttons: your children---especially teens---are experts at it, as is your mate. A coworker may quietly undermine your efforts while professing to be helpful, or your boss may prey on your weaknesses. Manipulative people have two goals: to win and to look good doing it.

Her book prefaces this, but it’s not mentioned in the podcast. I followed the podcast advice, and my con artist husband caused our mortgage and daycare payments to bounce buying hotel stays and ski trips for his girlfriend.

A new required reading for self growth imho. Audio volume fluctuates a lot, which is the only reason for the less than perfect performance review. Great narration.

Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

I read this on a long road trip and every chance I could the following week until the Egg was found. I even read it on runs. So so good. Is the Oasis real? I want in!

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Historia
From the celebrated neurobiologist and primatologist, a landmark, genre-defining examination of human behavior, both good and bad, and an answer to the question: Why do we do the things we do? Sapolsky's storytelling concept is delightful but it also has a powerful intrinsic logic: He starts by looking at the factors that bear on a person's reaction in the precise moment a behavior occurs, and then hops back in time from there, in stages, ultimately ending up at the deep history of our species and its evolutionary legacy.

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - what percentage of the world's population live in poverty; why the world's population is increasing; how many girls finish school - we systematically get the answers wrong. In Factfulness, professor of international health and global TED phenomenon Hans Rosling, together with his two longtime collaborators, Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens.

A must-read for all bleeding heart hopefuls
Revisado: 01-27-19
The basic premise of this book is that life actually IS getting better and that there are smart and effective ways to address the work that still needs to be done. The authors are bleeding-heart “possibilists” with strong foundations in psychology, sociology and economics, and with expertise in data analytics, who clearly and convincingly explain why we should keep the faith in continuous progress and how we should more logically consume media and political messages to maintain our positive momentum.

Review from the perspective of a 34-year-old, never-married and highly educated woman
Revisado: 11-21-18
There were points in this book that I thought, “well that is certainly the perspective of the alpha male,” and I kept listening because it is so rare to be invited to understand the alpha male perspective, at least it has been in my lifetime. Most of the book, however, was directly relevant to me and my life experience, too.
Part anthropologist, part psychologist, and mostly philosopher, Peterson distills the essence of modern Euro-American society’s stories, even the ones that go way back and have persisted, and wisely explains their significance today.
Most fascinating for me, he has logically analyzed and found the cause for modern American society’s obsession with violence and has some warnings about the future being female.
If you’re open-minded enough to consider another point of view and are dissatisfied with a life that seems meaningless, this is a must-read.

Our gut is almost as important to us as our brain, yet we know very little about how it works. Gut: The Inside Story is an entertaining, informative tour of the digestive system from the moment we raise a tasty morsel to our lips until the moment our body surrenders the remnants to the toilet bowl. No topic is too lowly for the author's wonder and admiration, from the careful choreography of breaking wind to the precise internal communication required for a cleansing vomit.
