Hardest book I ever read, but glad I did.

This book shook me to my core. I had to stop listening several times to gather myself. I almost stopped altogether, but felt compelled to continue. Part of my career, I served as a child abuse investigator, and when I couldn’t take it any longer, I became a professional counselor. I don’t think the impact this book had on me could have happened had anyone but Meg Tilly narrated it. I definitely feel she poured herself into the telling of this horrific tale of Gemma, the girl who served as a
commodity to her mother, preyed upon by the relentless brutality of the two fiends who abused her in the most sadistic and violent ways imaginable. It is a story that will stay with you for a long time as you wonder with heavy heart how many children in our world are subject to this kind of torture during their young lives and what happens to them if they are not rescued. There is a “not under 15” recommendation for this book, however, I believe it should be age 21.

I can’t remember reading such a great story. Full of love, pain, and courage. I read lots of books. I am a psychotherapist and 68 years old. I love romance novels, but with a compelling storyline . This book fills the bill. I thought the narrators were the best! Jacob Morgan really was fantastic and Andi Arndt never disappoints! I couldn’t put this book down!
Please give us more books with a strong storyline!

Probably not. Definitely will avoid narrator.
Would you recommend A Beautiful Mess to your friends? Why or why not?
Nope.
How could the performance have been better?
Different narrator. This one uses a shrill, shreaking voice to characterize Olivia's many mood swings.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointed. Story line had such possibilities, but Olivia's emotions depict someone with bi-polar disorder!
Any additional comments?
Bought the 3 book in the series, hoping for improvement. By the 3rd book found myself fast forwarding to get to the end. This shouldn't happen in a good novel and good narration.
