Historia
Meet Rachel Walsh. She's been living it up in New York City, spending her nights talking her way into glamorous parties before heading home in the early hours to her hot boyfriend Luke. But her sensible older sister showing up and sending her off to actual rehab wasn't quite part of her plan. She's only agreed to her incarceration because she's heard that rehab is wall-to-wall jacuzzis, gymnasiums and rock stars going cold turkey - plus it's about time she had a holiday.

The author's portrayal of addiction and hope was artfully woven with humor along with the pain.
Revisado: 01-04-25
The author realistically portrayed experiences faced by those who love people with addictions without making the story a complete downer. The story was written with the right mix pain, humor, and hope to keep me reading.

Historia
Los Angeles, 1920s: Socialite Mirielle West's days are crowded with shopping, luncheons, and prepping for the myriad glittering parties she attends with her actor husband, Charlie. She's been too busy to even notice the small patch of pale skin on the back of her hand. Other than an occasional overindulgence in gin and champagne, which helps to numb the pain of recent tragedy, Mirielle is the picture of health. But her doctor insists on more tests, and Mirielle reluctantly agrees. The diagnosis - leprosy - is devastating and unthinkable.

The author did a wonderful job with a difficult subject.
Revisado: 08-09-24
The author expertly intertwined the events of Mirielle’s life to illustrate her tragedy and triumphs while dealing with a horrific disease. I highly recommend this thought provoking novel. I am always amazed when an author can teach us about the past by portraying realistic characters who endure hardships those of us in this era know little about. This novel does just that.

Historia
When Marilyn Kleinman is caught making out with the rabbi’s son in front of the whole congregation, her parents ship her off to her great-aunt Ada for the summer. If anyone can save their daughter’s reputation, it’s Philadelphia’s strict premier matchmaker. Either that or Marilyn can kiss college goodbye. To Marilyn’s surprise, Ada’s not the humorless septuagenarian her mother described. Not with that platinum-blonde hair, Hermès scarf, and Cadillac convertible. She’s sharp, straight-talking, takes her job very seriously, and abides by her own rules…mostly.

Didn’t Expect the Ending
Revisado: 01-04-24
I loved the story. The narrator was fantastic. There was a glitch in the editing that caused some odd pauses in the narration. However, I highly recommend this book. It effectively addresses some serious issues of the time without being depressing.

The story is harsh but life is harsh. Human nature is artfully revealed through out this story that provides a thought provoking side of the Civil War that I have never before considered.
