Historia
Growing a perfect moustache, grilling red meat, wooing a woman - who better to deliver this tutelage than the always charming, always manly Nick Offerman, best known as Parks and Recreation's Ron Swanson? Combining his trademark comic voice and very real expertise in woodworking - he runs his own woodshop - Paddle Your Own Canoe features tales from Offerman's childhood in small-town Minooka, Illinois, to his theater days in Chicago, beginnings as a carpenter/actor and the hilarious and magnificent seduction of his now-wife Megan Mullally.

No thanks
Revisado: 05-27-24
Downloaded this book because I enjoyed "good clean fun". if you're looking for more of that, turn around. The segment I listened to (2hrs) is Offerman bashing religion and dogma while perpetuating the classic Hollywood liberal arts dogma himself and talking about all the chicks he's had sex with. Lol.
He gives religion heat for trying to sway the way people think and vote and then uses his platform as a celebrity to do just that.
The whole thing is just a monologue of his inner thoughts.

Historia
In Fermentation as Metaphor, stemming from his personal obsession with all things fermented, Katz meditates on his art and work, drawing connections between microbial communities and aspects of human culture: politics, religion, social and cultural movements, art, music, sexuality, identity, and even our individual thoughts and feelings. He informs his arguments with his vast knowledge of the fermentation process, which he describes as a slow, gentle, steady, yet unstoppable force for change.

Just barely fermentation related if at all
Revisado: 10-26-20
I'm thoroughly disappointed by this book. I'll look for a refund after I'm done writing this review.
I LOVED Wild fermentation and was excited to see more from Sandor Katz. This was not more of the same.
This book uses the facade of one's passion for fermented foods and shoe horns political and social justice issues by very thin metaphor.
I don't know by which hoops one jumps to join their socio philosophical beliefs and food preservation.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Excellent listening! Has held up beautifully.

Reads (and listens) beautifully. Smooth book with an excellent plot. The grandfather to a lot of sci Fi tales we know and love and still holds it's own to this day. Well worth it!

Historia
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

I really enjoyed this book. Classic Stephen King.
Revisado: 09-13-19
Typical Stephen King. Excellently written. Small town monsters and vivid characters. Some you love and some you hate intensely. Paranormal phenomenon takes second to the conflicts of a small town in a vacuum.

Historia
Coyote America is both an environmental and a deep natural history of the coyote. It traces both the five-million-year-long biological story of an animal that has become the "wolf" in our backyards and its cultural evolution from a preeminent spot in Native American religions to the hapless foil of the Road Runner. A deeply American tale, the story of the coyote in the American West and beyond is a sort of Manifest Destiny in reverse.

informative and eye opening to certain issues
Revisado: 12-05-17
The book is overall good and the narrator does a great job. BUT
The author is contradictory, and political ("liberal") in his opinions. Praises Walt Disney and Bambi multiple times. He seems more like an animal rights activist trying to convince others of the value of Coyotes through a rose colored filter. I think mass murder and poisoning of Coyotes is wrong too, but this goes past that a little.
He (the author) tries very hard to anthropomorphize and romanticize coyotes. He stretches comparisons between humans and coyotes to a nauseating degree.
Where there is one fact regarding coyotes, there are five anecdotes, stories or description of a Walt Disney movie that inspired him to animal rights.
Having said that, I did appreciate learning of the poisons campaigns of our forefathers and their errors. I understand the need to learn from the past. I didn't estimate the amount of fluff and feel pieces that would be included I suppose.

We are stuck, stymied, frustrated. But it needn't be this way. There is a formula for success that's been followed by the icons of history - from John D. Rockefeller to Amelia Earhart to Ulysses S. Grant to Steve Jobs - a formula that let them turn obstacles into opportunities. Faced with impossible situations, they found the astounding triumphs we all seek.

It's a good book. Decently narrated. Shallow.
Revisado: 07-08-17
I think Ryan has good intentions and does a good job of narrating this book. The concepts and thought is there but the overall book feels shallow. The concepts and examples are not fleshed out and don't have enough substance to be enlightening. This reads (or listens) like a long essay or bullet points and falls short.

Historia
One of the great fears many of us face is that despite all our effort and striving, we will discover at the end that we have wasted our life. In A Guide to the Good Life, William B. Irvine plumbs the wisdom of Stoic philosophy, one of the most popular and successful schools of thought in ancient Rome, and shows how its insight and advice are still remarkably applicable to modern lives. In A Guide to the Good Life, Irvine offers a refreshing presentation of Stoicism, showing how this ancient philosophy can still direct us toward a better life.

An excellent Stoic introduction
Revisado: 06-19-17
This is an excellent introduction to Stoicism and the Stoic greats. A great modernization of stocism as well as a superb telling and comparison of the philosophical ancients.
The narrator is perfect.
