This was... One of those books. It took me a bit to get into it, and it jumps back and forth between perspectives and places so much that for probably the first quarter I honestly wasn't sure how I felt about it. I never disliked it, I just wasn't sure. By about the halfway point though, I was thoroughly hooked. I still would have liked a little less jumping, more time with individual characters, however I did like the way the jumping kept the timeline in sync between them all. It was a great way to pass the time driving, and I found myself sitting in the car once I got home, wanting to listen a little bit longer.

The narration was definitely fun. Just enough effects added to give it a little extra without making it cheesy. Accents didn't sound overdone, and the difference between characters was easy to recognize.

It definitely gave me a thirst to listen to the next installments, and was well worth the time spent listening.

I listened to the audiobook version of this tale. I'll start by saying the narrator took me a bit to get used to. She sounded almost robotic, except when she was speaking in the voices of the characters. Yet after a time, I grew to appreciate her calm tone, and it's value to the story.

I've never read any other books set in what I have now learned is a vast world that this series spins from. Not to worry, this is a tale all its own. Following a snarky girl from the wrong side of town, it was full of cursing (verbal and magical), snark, bad a$$ery, and general awesomeness.

Magic? Check.
Worthy female heroine? Check.
Angst and drama? Check and check.

While I'm usually anxious to get to the end and see how it all turns out, this is only book one, so the story is really only beginning. This left me disappointed to reach the end, and only anxious to start the next book.

Absolutely worth the journey into this surprising future regressed world of magic.

The Children of Darkness was one of those books that I couldn't let go. Even when not listening, I was thinking over the plot, musing on the possible reality of it all. It built such an intriguing new world, one where the past and the future have coincided in a way that gave power to a religion, and practically enslaved the nations it represented.

The journey of Orah, Nathaniel, and Thomas to uncover the truth behind the "teachings" was as intriguing as it was thrilling. Their friendship and occasional squabbles made them feel real, and their weaknesses made them as much a group asset as their strengths.

This was a compelling dystopian fantasy at heart, with a hint of sweet, slow burn romance that sweetly built over the course of the story. This was just the beginning of the trials these young adults will face, however, and I am left longing to jump into book two!

This was my first book by this author, and although it's part of a series it stood alone perfectly. Georgia was such a real character, strong and clever while still flawed in a way that made her seem natural. Her journey of discovering a sister she didn't know she had was heartbreaking in it's hopefulness.

The level of intrigue as the plot spun webs of layers was impressive. It wasn't just one thing, it was many all interconnected in a way that captured Georgia and threatened to pull her down with it.

Getting to know her sister was emotionally difficult. Having such a promising young girl put through so much abuse was at times almost more than I could take, but I couldn't stop listening.

This was a thrill ride, of mystery and intrigue, and the ending was as intense as the build up. This may have been my first by Libby, but it absolutely won't be my last!

There was so much I loved about this book. There was so much focus on the characters. By the end of the book, I felt as if I personally knew Trudy and Seth. Their inner struggles seemed real, and their blossoming love and affection for each other felt genuine. It was a true romance, but it didn't have the instant sex and that added a lot to this story about strangers being thrust together. It also made it a more work appropriate listen, and a nice clean alternative from some of the other romances out there. The reader had a clear sweet voice, and I was easily able to listen for hours.

Trudy signs on to be a mail order bride and to move to a small town in Montana. We have a sweet young woman who is used to relative wealth and luxury in her St Louis city moving to a small 2 room cabin with no plumbing, and without the simple comforts she had been accustomed to. She struggles, but all the while with a positive attitude that is refreshing. Her husband, Seth, had fancied himself in love with another woman he could not have. That is, until Trudy came along and stole his heart, showing him that the love and affection that can grow between two like minded people is much stronger than a boyhood crush.

The landscape and historical aspects are wonderful and paint a vivid picture of small town western life and the struggles faced. The secondary characters are realistic, developed, and add to the richness of this story.

The final struggle between the couple is refreshing because not only is it plausible, but the couple actually handle and resolve it mutually and maturely, once they think it through and make their decisions. It is always a pleasure to read about adults acting like adults.

I finished this book, and immediately started on the next one. I have a feeling this is a series I'll be devouring!

First, I have to say that the narrator really adds a depth to this book. She is absolutely perfect. The story itself is hilarious and fun, as is typical with any of Molly Harpers books. Jane is a sarcastic recently fired librarian. After drinking away her sorrows and chatting with a handsome mystery man, she heads home only to have her car break down. While hiking to her house, she is mistaken for a deer and shot. Luckily for her, the mystery man is nearby, and a vampire, so he saves her life by killing her and turning her into one of the undead. Amusing adjustments to life ensue, and we get to meet Jane's family. Jane lives in the family home, willed to her by her dead aunt. This has caused bitterness among her other family members. Her mother is a nag, her sister a b---- and her father a sweet man who just tries his best to deal with the women in his life. Her Grandma is a black widow, having been married to several men, all who tragically die from natural causes. Oh, and her dead aunt is a ghost, who Jane can now see and communicate with as a vampire. The small town southern family drama is right on the mark, and oh so funny. I could see so many of my family members in those characters, which is actually kind of sad. Of course, her sire is gorgeous and dark and brooding, so romance is a natural progression. Then there is the difficulties of someone setting Jane up, drawing attention of the big bad vampire council. We're introduced to an amazing line up of characters, from Dick Cheney the skeevy but lovable vamp, to Andrea the blood donor, and Mr Wainright, who owns the specialty book store where Jane finds a job. This series is really the absolute best!

I loved this book! I bought it on a sale, and then had to start collecting everything else by this author. Her story is funny. Genuinely funny. Her take on the supernatural was fun, and didn't try to be something new and exciting. She allowed the story itself to be new and exciting. Her characters all came through with their own personalities, each and every one. The wit and sarcasm of the main character was refreshing and honest, not just contrived to get a laugh. The reader is perfect. She did an excellent job speaking for the different characters. Read this series!
