Historia
A classic of Japanese history, this audiobook is the preeminent work on the history of Japan. Newly revised and updated, A History of Japan is a single-volume complete history of the nation of Japan. Starting in ancient Japan during its early pre-history period, A History of Japan covers every important aspect of history and culture through feudal Japan to the post-Cold War period and collapse of the bubble economy in the early 1990s. Recent findings shed additional light on the origins of Japanese civilization and the birth of Japanese culture.

Good Synopsis on Japan’s History.
Revisado: 12-13-19
I have been studying the history and culture of Japan quite extensively for about two years now, and this book is a great start for anyone curious about the history of Japan. This audiobook hits all of the key points in Japanese history from the Jomon era, to the modern era. Anyone interested in garnering a greater understanding of the history of this unique and wonderful nation should add this audiobook to their library.

In contrast to formal Japanese textbooks, Real Japanese is an easy-to-listen-to collection of short stories about Japan, blended with useful phrases and language learning tips. If you are a casual learner or planning on traveling to Japan for a trip, this book will help you break down the language and culture into the real and everyday essentials. Great for Preparing a Visit to Japan
Revisado: 12-13-19
I am relocating to Osaka soon to pursue a career teaching English, and this book was a great help in preparing me. I have been studying Japanese for a few months and this book helped me quite a bit. It’s especially useful, because the author arrives in Japan as an English instructor as well. His insights are especially useful for my situation, but this book is a great book for anyone wanting to prepare for a visit to the land of the rising sun. His descriptions of various aspects of Japanese culture have made me even more excited to live in Japan. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in Japan, the Japanese language, or Japanese culture, whether you want to visit Japan or not.

Historia
Basil Hall Chamberlain (1850-1935) was a professor of Japanese at Tokyo Imperial University. This is his translation of the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters), which was compiled in AD 712 by Ō no Yasumaro at the request of Empress Genmei. One of the two primary sources of the Japanese national religion of Shinto, The Kojiki is a collection of myths, early legends, songs, genealogies, oral traditions, and semi-historical accounts.

Strange Translation
Revisado: 12-13-19
The book would be much better if the translation wasn’t so wonky. Japanese mythology is fascinating, but until I’m able to find another translation that is better I won’t be reading the kojiki again. Look for a different book on Japanese mythology.
