Historia
Here for the first time, in rich human, political, and scientific detail, is the complete story of how the bomb was developed, from the turn-of-the-century discovery of the vast energy locked inside the atom to the dropping of the first bombs on Japan. Few great discoveries have evolved so swiftly - or have been so misunderstood. From the theoretical discussions of nuclear energy to the bright glare of Trinity, there was a span of hardly more than 25 years.

Amazing. Highly recommend
Revisado: 12-04-24
This is a near complete compilation of the people and their stories that built to the atomic bomb. The author has taken the time to include nuance that gives a deep understanding of to the reader of the events and the circumstances of these historic events.
Many books capture smaller elements of the men and this history; here these are interwoven into one full telling.
Well worth the time.

Historia
Bankers, philanthropists, scholars, socialites, artists, and politicians, the Warburgs stood at the pinnacle of German (and, later, German American) Jewry. They forged economic dynasties, built mansions and estates, assembled libraries, endowed charities, and advised a German kaiser and two American presidents. But their very success made the Warburgs lightning rods for anti-Semitism, and their sense of patriotism became increasingly dangerous in a Germany that had declared Jews the enemy.

A story I didn’t know
Revisado: 10-31-24
This was an excellent book, filled with deep details that bring the Warburg family to life.
The historical events covered in this book need these families’ stories to bring them to younger generations.

Historia
Carmen Rita Wong has always craved a sense of belonging: First as a toddler in a warm room full of Black and brown Latina women, like her mother, Lupe, cheering her dancing during her childhood in Harlem. And in Chinatown, where her immigrant father, “Papi” Wong, a hustler, would show her and her older brother off in opulent restaurants decorated in red and gold. Then came the almost exclusively white playgrounds of New Hampshire after her mother married her stepfather, Marty, who seemed to be the ideal of the white American dad.

Historia
In Carrying the Fire, Michael Collins conveys, in a very personal way, the drama, beauty, and humor of the adventure of reaching the moon. He also traces his development from his first flight experiences in the air force, through his days as a test pilot, to his Apollo 11 spacewalk, presenting an evocative description of the joys of flight as well as a new perspective on time, light, and movement from someone who has seen the fragile Earth from the other side of the moon.

Fun mix of history with fictional characters and story
Revisado: 12-04-23
The history of Sushi is woven nicely throughout the book. The fictional story isn’t the greatest, but it holds together and carries the listener between the interesting sushi information.
I enjoyed as a light listen.

From the legendary actor and best-selling author: a novel about the making of a star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film...and the humble comic books that inspired it. Funny, touching, and wonderfully thought-provoking, while also capturing the changes in America and American culture since World War II.

Very enjoyable
Revisado: 07-25-23
The story is fun to follow through the world of movie-making that few are invited inside. The characters are well developed, and the arc of the story flows along smoothly.
I enjoyed the performance of the readers. In other audiobooks, the use of multiple voices hasn’t always been helpful, and sometimes even brought confusion. I didn’t have any issue with that in this audiobook.
I also liked the length. Plenty of time to get to know the people in the story. I wanted to know where they were going next!

When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?
