Insipid
Revisado: 10-22-21
This is a really insipid book. Why would a great narrator like Davina Porter bother with it?

Historia
Coming from scandalous Florida treasure hunters and drug smugglers, Sloan McPherson is forging her own path, for herself and for her daughter, out from under her family’s shadow. An auxiliary officer for Lauderdale Shores PD, she’s the go-to diver for evidence recovery. Then Sloan finds a fresh kill floating in a canal - a woman whose murky history collides with Sloan’s. Their troubling ties are making Sloan less a potential witness than a suspect. And her colleagues aren’t the only ones following every move she makes. So is the killer.

Such a disappointment
Revisado: 06-23-21
The female protagonist is a male character dressed up with female stereotypes. The plot is extremely improbable,
If you are going to read this then have your "willing suspension of disbelief" button fully operative. How many times can you jump into canal, rivers or the sea and still have your phone work? I can't do it once, and I have proved it.
I liked his naturalist series, and I wanted to like this, but it just feels like he read the book on thriller plot structure and did this to make money

Historia
For all the monumental documentation that Watergate generated - uncountable volumes of committee records, court transcripts, and memoirs - it falls at last to a novelist to perform the work of inference (and invention) that allows us to solve some of the scandal’s greatest mysteries - who did erase those eighteen-and-a-half minutes of tape? - and to see this gaudy American catastrophe in its human entirety. In Watergate, Thomas Mallon conveys the drama and high comedy of the Nixon presidency through the urgent perspectives of seven characters we only thought we knew.

Whitewash
Revisado: 06-17-21
This book comes as near as it can to whitewashing Nixon. It makes out that Watergate is an isolated incident. No dirty tricks. Everybody involved appears to be a bungling Boy Scout. The tape erasures were just a secretary who heard something rude about herself. Utter junk

ABRIDGED
Revisado: 08-20-20
This is abridged without any mention of it.
The narrator is terrible. He can not bring either the Scots or the Irish to life. The book itself is good when you hear it all

Historia
As a Japanese-American fisherman stands trial for murder on an island in Puget Sound, snow blankets the countryside. The whiteness covers the courthouse, but it cannot conceal the memories at work inside: the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, an unrequited love, and the ghosts of racism that still haunt the islanders. First novels rarely attract as much attention as Snow Falling on Cedars. Remaining on best seller lists for months, it has cast a spell on listeners across the country.

Watch out. Horrifying Autopsy details
Revisado: 04-28-20
Really there are way too many horrible details from an autopsy, which is a shame because the writing is beautiful and poetic. If the details had been quick then I might have skimmed over, but they were repeated and repeated, and I gave up reading. I would like to exchange this book

Sappy and obvious
Revisado: 04-25-19
This plot is sappy and obvious. It is slow to the extreme and the author needs to reiterate the maudlin psychological points over and over again just in case you missed it.
The narrator is pedantic and dull.

Israeli propaganda a problem
Revisado: 04-16-19
This is a good story with interesting characters but the Palestinians are demonized and their point of view is not put. Does somebody have the right to take over my house just because they are better housekeepers. That piece of propaganda is reiterated ad nauseum

Clunky romance formula
Revisado: 07-02-18
This book is slightly saved by the second plot about the Chinese exclusion act. Otherwise it would be a vapid and negligible romance novel.
However it seems unfair to saddle the Seattle community with quite the guilt that this book implies, since the Seattle law enforcement did in fact protect the Chinese community as much as they were able.
