Historia
You wake up and feel a tickle in your throat. Your head hurts. You’re mildly annoyed as you get the kids ready for school and dress for work yourself. Meanwhile, an epic war is being fought, just below your skin. Millions are fighting and dying for you to be able to complain as you head out the door. So what, exactly, is your immune system? In Immune, Philipp Dettmer, the brains behind the most popular science channel on YouTube, takes listeners on a journey through the fortress of the human body and its defenses.

Great Review
Revisado: 05-06-25
I've had a few immunology classes in my lifetime and this is a nice summary and basic review everyone should listen to at least once.

Historia
Katrina. Haiti. BP. Fukushima. The Great Recession. Those are just a few of the catastrophic disruptions the world has endured in recent years. As we try to respond to such crises, key questions arise: What causes one system to break under great stress and another to rebound? How much change can a complex system absorb while still retaining its purpose and function? What characteristics make it adaptive to change? Provocative and eye-opening, Resilience sheds light on the nature of change.

Dated, a lot of conjecture
Revisado: 09-25-22
Very disappointed. Random stories trying to convince reader of concepts of resilience. The much hyped system for preventing pandemics (book is 10 years old), well you know the story. Read Scale by Geoff West.

Historia
A woman disappears on her way to work. A man is convicted of her murder. But this case is different. Though the police believe they have the right man, key components of the prosecution case are missing. There is no body of the victim, no witnesses to the crime, no confession and no physical evidence: no DNA, CCTV or murder weapon.

Their main point is that Scottish laws should be reviewed. All the facts revealed could have been completed in two hours.

Historia
Forty years ago Israeli psychologists Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky wrote a series of breathtakingly original studies undoing our assumptions about the decision-making process. Their papers showed the ways in which the human mind erred systematically when forced to make judgments about uncertain situations. Their work created the field of behavioral economics, revolutionized Big Data studies, advanced evidence-based medicine, led to a new approach to government regulation, and made Michael Lewis' work possible.

Inspiring
Revisado: 02-10-17
I had read much of the duo's work, but this gave great insight into their personalities. The opening was only semi-interesting. It took a while to get to the Amos and Danny show, but when it did it blew me away...and I already knew much of the story.

Not a master story teller
Revisado: 02-22-16
Great topic. Text is dense. Narrator sounded like and infomercial announcer. Not learned or academic like the author is.

Historia
From its opening minutes on his youthful obsession with motorcycles and speed, On the Move is infused with his restless energy. As he recounts his experiences as a young neurologist in the early 1960s, first in California, where he struggled with drug addiction, and then in New York, where he discovered a long-forgotten illness in the back wards of a chronic hospital, we see how his engagement with patients comes to define his life.

Classic Sacks
Revisado: 08-17-15
If you like Sacks' work you will enjoy learning more about the man. If one don't get him, I am not sure how one would perceive this lovable genius. He is quirky to say the least. He has a voracious appetite for life that is infectious. I loved it.
