In the more than 100 years since Doyle created the immortal Sherlock Holmes and his assistant, Dr. Watson, no other mystery writer has come close to eclipsing him as the standard bearer in crime fiction. Salk became a cultural hero and icon for a whole generation. Now, at the fiftieth anniversary of the first national vaccination program, and as humanity is tantalizingly close to eradicating polio worldwide, comes this unforgettable chronicle. Any additional comments?
I had polio in 1955 at 6 months of age so I was personally interested in the book. I have read a few books on the development of the Polio Vaccines and the battles between Salk and Sabin. This has been my favorite.
The science details in this book are understandable by all. The science isn't the main point of the book. The book deals with the personal, finical, and political hardships of bringing the Salk Vaccine to use.
Even if you haven't been directly affected by polio, this book is a great history read. It's not just dry facts. It made Salk feel like a real person, with good points and flaws. I was able to "feel" the pressure and stress he lived with.

Any additional comments?
This is a short story, a little over 2 hours in length. It keep me listening and not wanting to stop. There was suspense.
I kept trying to figure out what was causing the problems. Even though, I did figure it out before it was explained, it kept me hooked.

An Enjoyable Listen
Revisado: 08-06-08
This is my first ever review, so please bear with me.
I only got this book because of Audible's short-time sale offer of making it free. I must applaud them for doing that. I am currently downloading the 2nd book in the series. I hope they make other books free to start me reading a series I might not otherwise know about.
I usually read/listen to books for pure enjoyment and I enjoyed this one. There was no graphic sex and minimal violence.
The narrator, Jay Snyder, did a good job. I was easily able to know which character was speaking, by the changes in his voice.
The book was mainly a mystery set in a Science Fiction setting. Although, I was fairly certain how some of the book would turn out, I still had a hard time shutting it off at night to go to sleep. Sometimes, even believing I know most of the ending, the getting there is still a lot of fun.
