Historia
Named “Ketanji Onyika,” meaning “Lovely One,” based on a suggestion from her aunt, a Peace Corps worker stationed in West Africa, Justice Jackson learned from her educator parents to take pride in her heritage since birth. She describes her resolve as a young girl to honor this legacy and realize her dreams.

Bravo! 👏 👏 👏 Beautifully written! I enjoyed every ounce of this book. Justice Jackson brilliantly opened up her life and invited us in in a way that was relatable and allowed us to feel the challenges, the pain, the disappointments as well as the triumphs. Not surprisingly, she has a command of the English language that is enviable which allowed her to tell her story in living color. I laughed, I cried, I celebrated, and rejoiced.
As an attorney, and now a Supreme Court Justice, my hope was that she wouldn't overwhelm us with too much of the legal minutiae of her career. Thankfully, it was just enough to explain whatever situation she was conveying. If this is your concern as well, don't be. There was not one boring story in this entire book. I'm so grateful that she wrote this book because I always wanted to know more about her life and her journey to the Supreme Court. I am so proud of her! She is truly a lovely one.

This is the book you've been waiting for!
Revisado: 03-29-22
Emmanuel Acho nailed it! This is one of the best self-help books I've had the pleasure of listening to ever, and I've read or listened to more than I can count. I thank God for leading me to the Self-Help
section in a book store over 30-years ago. Self-help books have empowered me, encouraged me, and taught me how to find success. I wish Illogical had been available 30-years ago. It would have provided more clarity for me. As helpful as the other books were, oftentimes I felt like I was being given only part of the information, so I would buy another book in the hope that it would spell out more clearly what I needed to know to find the success that I craved. Illogical does just that. It will shorten your learning curve. In listening to this audio-book, I was finally able to distill the secret of my success: I have been Illogical! And that has made all the difference.

Historia
In this luminous memoir, a true American icon looks back on his celebrated life and career. His body of work is arguably the most morally significant in cinematic history, and the power and influence of that work are indicative of the character of the man behind the many storied roles. Sidney Poitier here explores these elements of character and personal values to take his own measure: as a man, as a husband and a father, and as an actor.

Historia
In 2012, an Oregon mother named Julie Keith opened up a package of Halloween decorations. The cheap foam headstones had been five dollars at Kmart, too good a deal to pass up. But when she opened the box, something shocking fell out: an SOS letter, handwritten in broken English.

Riveting! Please Read This Book!
Revisado: 01-09-22
The information in this book hit me like a ton of bricks! I had no idea these horrors are being visited upon these innocent people in order to bring us, Americans, many of the goods we buy. Learning of the unfathomable torture these individuals suffer and the enjoyment that their persecutors gain from seeing them suffer just ripped my heart out. This knowledge kept me up at night. I have been profoundly affected by this revelation. I am humbled by the prisoners who risked their lives to get the information out.
Now that this condition has been brought to my attention, I will avoid as much as possible goods made in China. I will also become much more vocal when American companies' business practices of doing business with companies who utilize forced labor camps to produce their products is discovered and publicized.
Thank you, Amelia Pang and Nancy Wu, for bringing these atrocities to our attention.

Historia
In Made in China, investigative journalist Amelia Pang pulls back the curtain. What she reveals is a closely guarded network of laogai - forced labor camps - that power the rapid pace of American consumerism. Through extensive interviews and firsthand reportage, Pang shows us the true cost of America’s cheap goods and shares what is ultimately a call to action - urging us to ask more questions and demand more answers from the companies we patronize.

It’s easy to be yourself when who and what you are is in vogue. But growing up Black and gay in America has never been easy. Before Billy Porter was slaying red carpets and giving an iconic performance in the celebrated TV show Pose; before he was the Tony Award-winning star of Broadway’s Kinky Boots; and before he was an acclaimed recording artist, actor, playwright, and all-around diva, Porter was a young boy who didn’t fit in.

Historia
Brandon P. Fleming grew up in an abusive home and was shuffled through school, his passing grades a nod to his skill on the basketball court, not his presence in the classroom. He turned to the streets and drug deals by 14, saved only by the dream of basketball stardom. When he suffered a career-ending injury during his first semester at a Division I school, he dropped out of college, toiling on an assembly line, until depression drove him to the edge. Miraculously, his life was spared. Returning to college, Fleming was determined to reinvent himself as a scholar.

A MUST READ!
Revisado: 12-10-21
This memoir speaks to the enormous resilience of the human spirit and the possibilities of what one can accomplish when he/she has a determined heart. Not only did Brandon save himself, he saved a generation. He was able to help "At Risk" children (I HATE that description) accomplish the impossible. We need so many more Mr. Flemings to step up. I realize that not everyone has the skills that Mr. Fleming had. However, if you don't have those skills, please find someone who does, and direct your child, or children that you know, to his program. So heartwarming! This is a MUST READ! It clearly demonstrates what the power of love and intention can accomplish. Well done, Mr. Fleming! So proud of you and your scholars!

Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”
