Like other reviews, this book would benefit from an editor, or spellcheck! I put it down after the first couple pages several months ago and picked it back up because I was desperate for something new. It didn’t pull me in initially. I pushed through. It had potential. Then it lost it. My biggest issue is the build up then let down multiple times. Spoiler... her mother was impregnated at 17 because she had special gifts (thanks for no further explanation on that, btw) and held against her will until she had to seduce someone to escape. Then her mother was terrified of him catching her and so she turned into a crack whore. That would make her father a perv and sadist kidnapper right?? To add build up, her father was a BAD guy according to a couple different sources. He was supposed to be this big dangerous bad@ss dude but then they meet and after five minutes, they’re “Dear Daughter” and “Dear Father”. Insert eye roll here. Then somehow this girl homeschooled by a crack whore manages to earn a secondary degree and become such an awesome geneticist that she can afford a fancy house on a beach in CA. Then the author has to remind us she’s a cold fish bc that is certainly not the image she conveys to ANYone at any time. Then the love story. Sigh. Not a romantic sigh but a sigh of frustration. She is smart to run away but then goes back with him and they are very shortly thereafter in love. Ok. But WTH was that scene with a butter knife??? That was just confusing and stupid. Then big build up of war. Well, her father goes into house and war over. Remember he’s a bad@ss dude. Did I miss a couple dozen pages? Also Celeste helped keep her mom against her will. She didn’t see anything wrong with that? And bad guy underling is smart enough to kill several vampires and people but gets caught at airport. Couldn’t he detect Bas was their through their connection? Oh and she has experience with her special gifts but stops a plane from crashing. I mean I get it, it’s fantasy but for real? Won’t be continuing series. Ps, not a fan of the narration in audio book.

Narrator was whiny and nasally. Couldn’t get into story. Don’t know if story was good or not.

First couple chapters I was needing a flowchart and family tree to keep up. Next chapters gave great insight to Stryker and his need to protect his people but it seemed to belong in the wrong book as if author was trying to make up for leaving it out of his book. Then the same with Acheron and Styx’s stories. Then it was like a completely different book trying to tie the dragon world back in. Too much. I couldn’t keep the back stories of SO many characters since it’s been so long between stories.
