I am Jack Voraces, a professional audiobook narrator: https://www.audible.com/search?searchNarrator=Jack+Voraces I do not intend to make any money from this podcast. what happened to mother of learning

amazing voice actor and interesting story...
Revisado: 06-26-24
someone had recommended this to me and I did not know that it is a "retelling"of Harry potter kind of an alternate universe of an alternate universe.... so once I got beyond the fact that it wasn't matching what the original story gave us, I was able to settle in.
the one thing that I don't like about it is that the Harry potter character is just written as a complete fob to begin with but of course how do we show what someone has learned if we don't show them a worse state to begin with 🤷🏼
overall I think that this fanfic is an excellent medium to "open the eyes" its readers... it is literally written with the agenda of teaching people how to learn and evolve, even though that's not stated other than in the title.
one of the things that I also love about it is that it kind of turns the Harry potter books inside out you find out stuff earlier on in the fanfic then you did in the original series in a way that allows the main character to learn and grow.
on top of that... the voice actor/reader is phenomenal. it might be that there are multiple people reading the characters, but if that's the case they're not listed but I literally cannot tell that it's the same actor with the various voices.. it makes me honestly believe that there are multiple people reading but not in a way that is a "dramatization" because I don't enjoy those.
it's just very well done!
the only real complaint that I have is that because it's a podcast, the chapters try to force you to listen to them in reverse.. if you're on chapter 22 instead of going to chapter 23 it goes to chapter 21.. audible said they're going to try to fix this but just know that it takes some mental work to remember where you are so that you can go click on the next chapter 🙏🏻

A pyramid predating all known cultures appears without warning. Its discovery throws into question everything we know about the origins of mankind. Inside lies incredible technology, proof of a culture far more advanced than our own. Something dark lurks within, eager to resume a war as old as mankind. When it is unleashed it heralds the end of our species’ reign.

Master flea weaves multiple cultures together
Revisado: 04-25-24
I love books that are based on real history or real mythos or real religions etc and this book twines them all together with an Egyptian focus as the primary backstory. I love that it also brings together many different superstitious beliefs and tries to make sense of them all.
there are a couple of places in the book that I wish it had gone slightly differently but really only one where I was disappointed.
This is a good series and a good price getting the whole series for one credit. If you like SG-1 then you'll probably love this whole story.
The very beginning is kind of disconnected from the rest of the story... So I totally recommend after you've completed the story rereading the beginning whether you're listening to that as an audiobook or reading it in some other way. listening to it the second time through really helped me to understand what I had missed the first time.
It's long.. very very long cuz it's all five books plus a prequel but it is worth the time to read it and it was worth the time to read it a second time.
I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did!

amazing story with better editing than original
Revisado: 02-04-24
This trilogy was/is my absolute favorite sci-fi universe, how ever re-reading it with my eyes was a bit "extra" due to the over-detail to the brutality in it.... however Audible sensibly edited down the horrific brutality and now it is a much more desirable relistening to!
The universe is deep and complex, with different ideas of religion, politics, desires, drives, technology, etc.
The various personal interactions are good and complex. Sadly the people with the highest emotional evolution are a bit "flat" but overall is still satisfying.
Please be aware that if you start book 1, you will need to read all three... and they are all quite long👍🏻

I like that it flips the script a lot... The main character is a woman who is emotionally stunted but incredibly capable... it's an action adventure and I think that it's well done.

Historia
“Can I kiss you?” It was two months before the world premiere of Juno, and Elliot Page was in his first ever queer bar. The hot summer air hung heavy around him as he looked at her. And then it happened. In front of everyone. A previously unfathomable experience. Here he was on the precipice of discovering himself as a queer person, as a trans person. Getting closer to his desires, his dreams, himself, without the repression he’d carried for so long. But for Elliot, two steps forward had always come with one step back.

I feel seen by listening to this.. It's powerful.
Revisado: 07-09-23
he is an amazing actor and it really shines through in reading his book to us... his tone sounds limp and timid and lifeless at the beginning of the book and as he unfolds into life, through the story, you can hear the emotion and the shining through of his true self.
The expression of growing up feeling as though an outsider, is so many of us whether we are autistic or trans or queer or all of the above... This is a powerful story about that journey and I feel seen and heard and listened to by listening to this journey.
none of us are alone and Elliot is amazing at expressing the feelings of isolation loneliness but also in a way that cuts through it and reminds us all that none of us are alone.
I would recommend this book to anyone who's trying to find themselves in any way or about any topic... This was beautiful.

This was the best whodunnit of the series so far!
Revisado: 06-23-23
Every book in this series is amazing! Gigi is a delightful writer and this series is appropriate for such a wide range of ages, tastes, and personalities 💜
I could see this being read by a teenager or a 30 something or a 50 something or a grandmother... And every single one of them loving it 🥰
The character's personality development is very clear and I feel as though I know these people and I could just bump into them on the street somewhere here in Portland 🥰
I hope you read the whole series! And I hope there's another book after this one and at least five more after that 🤣🥰

Revisado: 06-18-23
This entire series is so freaking wholesome and I love it! there's some romance but there's no sex, there's a little bit of violence but it's not strongly described! There's interesting characters, with character development, there are intelligent decisions that are made, and honestly I just feel like I have a bunch of friends at my house when I read it! I live in Portland Oregon and hearing all about the area feels like I'm just listening to some friends tell their story 🥰🙏🏻
I love this author and I love this reader! honestly this reader is probably in the top five best readers I've ever enjoyed!

Read under the keep before you read this trilogy and if you haven't read under the keep already then you should read it before this book and before you go on to the last book.
sadly there is a different reader for each book but one of the books the reader doesn't start off so good but she gains her feet so stick with it... every reader is good and every book is good.
It's interesting how this author's mind works and I'm really enjoying it.

The Tearling, founded as a utopia, has collapsed and reverted to feudalism. As the gap between rich and poor widens and famine threatens the land, rumors of a prophecy begin to spread: a great hope, a True Queen who will ascend and save the kingdom. Enlisted from his earliest days to kill without mercy, he has never seen sun or sky, not until a quest for vengeance propels him above ground.

This is the book to read BEFORE the trilogy (imo).... it is satisfying and fulfilling. The char dev is very important to the story and shifts the frustration towards excitement.
I loved it.
The reader starts off iffy but gains their feet, so to speak, and by the middle they are going strong. stick with it, it is worth it:)

Historia
Magic, adventure, mystery, and romance combine in this epic debut in which a young princess must reclaim her dead mother’s throne, learn to be a ruler - and defeat the Red Queen, a powerful and malevolent sorceress determined to destroy her. On her 19th birthday, Princess Kelsea Raleigh Glynn, raised in exile, sets out on a perilous journey back to the castle of her birth to ascend her rightful throne. Plain and serious, a girl who loves books and learning, Kelsea bears little resemblance to her mother, the vain and frivolous Queen Elyssa.

Excellent char Dev, storyline, & descriptions.
Revisado: 03-01-23
I do feel that the story is a little slow in some areas... but the pacing is fairly consistent, so you know what you're getting yourself into by the end of the first hour.... The character development is excellent, the storyline is excellent, the descriptions are amazing, and all around I did enjoy the story. The female protagonist definitely grows through the course of the story although they don't necessarily explain what is happening internally that's allowing her to grow and that is a little bit of a short sight.
and although this is a fantasy novel there is not much magic in it.. There is some but not a lot.
I'm hoping that there is more magic in the other books.
I do think that perhaps you should read "beneath the keep" before you begin this trilogy... It seemed to not be numbered in this trilogy but it is before this book in the timeline.
I did not discover it until I was halfway through this book but I'm going to go read it now before I continue on with the other two.
apparently it tells the backstory of The leader of her guard... I don't remember what that title is, sorry.
All in all I enjoyed it... I love the voices that the reader does... I prefer her natural accent the most because it's the most similar to mine... but the narrator voice that she does is this incredibly haughty snobby British accent and I love it... And she does all of the other accents very well, in my opinion.
some people have complained that they don't like her voice and it's like nails down a chalkboard... I recommend listening to the sample to see if it bothers you.. but honestly I think that she chose the correct accent for the narrator... And she's able to modulate her accent really well for the different characters so that you know who is speaking! as somebody who's somewhat obsessed with linguistics and accents I have to say that she does a very good job!
