Historia
Have you ever doubted your faith? Have you ever, deep down in your heart, doubted that God was really present in your life? Or wondered whether everything you believed in as a Christian was false? Call it existential doubt. Call it “the dark night of the soul,” as one Christian saint famously did. Whatever you call it, it’s real. It is personal, it is painful, it is distressing, and it can last for years, maybe even a lifetime. But you are not alone.

Grace and Truth
Revisado: 03-17-23
The audio version of this was very enjoyable, and I really appreciate the fine line he attempted and succeeded in walking as he spoke to both believers and skeptics. Those who want to hold on to dogma and can't tolerate anyone who speaks in a way that recognizes the worldliness That we all have, and have to confront, are the ones easily offended by some of the things that he says. But I believe after many years of study, that this was filled with both Grace and Truth, and is a worthy listen for anyone. Was it perfect? I don't think so, but I know I'm not, and it definitely is great, and I'm grateful for it.

More adult and dark
Revisado: 04-16-20
I was disappointed in how the level of foul language, sexual references and overall darkness was ramped up so significantly. It is a good story and the multiple narrators was pretty interesting to listen to, but I just don’t know why such a great series had to cave to the common and foul, it certainly didn’t make it better to listen to. It made for a full star or two reduction in my opinion when coupled with the pervasive darkness and depressing themes.

It is a society that is, officially, a paradise. Superior to the decadent West, Stalin's Soviet Union is a haven for its citizens, providing for all of their needs: education, health care, security. In exchange, all that is required is their hard work, and their loyalty and faith to the Soviet State. But now a murderer is on the loose.

Have to be very patient
Revisado: 06-23-18
Ultimately a good story and well read, but the development and setup time is really significant. The author does a thorough and frankly exhaustive job of painting the oppressive and horrific culture of Stalin-era Russia. He more like immerses you in it while developing characters that you don’t have any feel for what part they are playing. This culture of oppression and misery is central to the story, however it makes you want to pull your hair out a time or two until you finally get pulled into the flow and direction of the story. Then, it’s much more enjoyable.

Boy, this guy has serious issues with faith/belief/religion
Revisado: 10-30-17
But, good story, original and with just the right amount of tech. Very good, I liked it, despite the author’s desire to blame everything on religion and make his point endlessly that any believer must be a nut job. Lost in space meets lost in faith. Plenty of good laughs, he has a great sense of humor and is a good writer, I may read more of his books because of those qualities

Absolutely Great
Revisado: 08-22-17
It wasn't so much that the story was great....it was a really good story, some good twists...but the quality of writing and narration was nothing short of fantastic. I didn't want it to end.

Suspenseful, keeps you interested and guessing to the end. Great story and writing, awesome characters from the narration was really good . Definitely could've done without the graphic detail of sexual encounters.

C. S. Lewis's dazzling allegory about Heaven and Hell - and the chasm fixed between them - is one of his most brilliantly imaginative tales, where we discover that the gates of Hell are locked from the inside. In a dream, the narrator boards a bus on a drizzly afternoon in Hell and embarks on an incredible voyage to Heaven. Anyone in Hell is invited on board, and anyone may remain in Heaven if he or she so chooses. But do we really want to live in Heaven?

Extraordinary
Revisado: 01-27-17
Whether or not the picture CS Lewis paints in this book is close or infinitely far away from what we will see one day, it cannot diminish the profound and wondrous ideas and expressions in this book. Truly, no one who seeks Him will fail to find Him, thanks be to God!

Outstanding!
Revisado: 10-20-16
I was very surprised at the depth and breadth and quality of the story. I felt that it contained a "completeness" that you only find in the really best epic adventures. I don't think the narration was spectacular, but his voice and consistency was very good and, although there were is some confusion at times mainly due to the narration, I think some of that was driven by how the dialogue and such was written putting him at something of a disadvantage
At least for me, this was well worth the money and time invested and I have already bought the second one.

Really good all around
Revisado: 10-14-16
Just a good example of why I have an audible subscription. The story was solid, the performance was outstanding, really great characters and a protagonist you love to hate. Overall it was just engaging and enjoyable. I'm coming quite late to the series and author, so now I have to go back and probably start from the beginning, or at least pick and choose the best reviewed titles.
My last book was my first miserable experience, so this was a welcome relief.

Historia
When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, he discovers that Quine's disappearance is no coincidence. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published, it would ruin lives - meaning that almost everyone in his life would have motives to silence him.

Extraordinary narrator, first rate characters
Revisado: 09-18-16
As usual this holds to the terribly dark and arguably sick and twisted nastiness of the bad guys in this series (as well as some of the other characters) and employs plenty of obscenities and vulgarities. However, that is hand in hand with brilliant main character development and always a compelling story.
Laugh out loud funny at times at the endearing personalities and well-written dialogue - along with a narrator so perfect and talented it might as well have an ensemble of actors performing the parts. I would prefer it not be so. thoroughly .......adult (for lack of a better term), but These books are clearly the whole package of story, writing, performance and directing/production.
