Historia
In The Crash of Flight 3804, Investigative Journalist Charlotte Dennett digs into her father’s counterintelligence work, which pitted him against America’s wartime allies - the British, the French, and the Russians - in a covert battle for geopolitical and economic influence in the Middle East. Through vivid storytelling, extensive research, and deep analysis of region-defining maps, she reveals how feverish competition among intelligence networks, military, and Big Oil interests have fueled indiscriminate attacks and targeted killings that continue to this day.

Expected a serious book especially with that title
Revisado: 09-14-23
I didn’t know if this was a biography or a book about geopolitics and pipelines. Author spends too much time about herself and father. A lot of time spent on personal feelings of virtue and self righteousness. Author even discussing her honesty since childhood. Unnecessary. Also includes highly partisan political jabs as well. Again, unnecessary.
I was expecting to hear and learn more about geopolitics and finance side of pipelines(some inside baseball) but the author came short. Not a serious book.

Historia
You may be surprised to learn that microchips are the new oil—the scarce resource on which the modern world depends. Today, military, economic, and geopolitical power are built on a foundation of computer chips. Virtually everything—from missiles to microwaves—runs on chips, including cars, smartphones, the stock market, even the electric grid. Until recently, America designed and built the fastest chips and maintained its lead as the #1 superpower, but America’s edge is in danger of slipping, undermined by players in Taiwan, Korea, and Europe taking over manufacturing.

Good primer

This is a great book to get a background on the industry, its early individual players, and the different countries competing.
Some chapters were short tales that could have been left out w/o the reader being any less informed on the history of chips.
The impact chips have had on warfare and geopolitics was interesting.
Chapter 28 was biased on the downfall of Japan. I was surprised there was no mention of the Plaza Accord considering a lot of the geopolitics in the book. And in regards to the statement on Japan not joining the other countries and sending troops to the Gulf after the invasion: JP has a constitution post WWII that forbids military intervention. So although factually they didn’t send troops you made a glaring omission to the facts.
I am still on CH28 but I needed to leave this review before I forgot about this statement I came across. Otherwise, this book is great as a guide for semiconductor history before diving into something technical.

Good listen as audiobook

This second book was informative but lacked info about the CIA and especially so when compared to the first. Lots on the White House and it’s cabinet. It says CIA on the cover of the book but didn’t give much detail. A little on Panetta, less on Petraeus, none on Brennan.
