Ridiculously sappy storyline
Revisado: 04-14-25
The readers sappy voice is annoying and the way Jo puts up with the bs from the little girl is completely unbelievable. No one who had children would deal with the issue like that.

Dumbest book ever
Revisado: 04-07-25
Don't waste your credits on this disjointed silly book. I got it because Scalzi's books are generally enjoyable and entertaining. He should have skipped writing this one because it was a waste of his time and mine.

It was an entertaining listen. The story line is very much in line with classics like "The Lord of the Rings."

Ground Hog Day Revisited
Revisado: 12-29-24
It was somewhat boring and redundant and the storyline is like cookies on a trail but for each new one you have to start at the beginning all over again. I am sure the author thought it was a clever way to go about it but I'm halfway through and giving up. So not so much.

Historia
It was supposed to be fun. A relaxing trip to a remote mountain retreat where there’s no phone reception. Three couples, friends since high school, are looking forward to a weekend of drinking, reminiscing and flirting. When someone suggests swapping partners, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea. The lights will be switched off, for privacy. It’s not really cheating if you don’t know who you were with, right? But when the lights come back on, one of the men is dead. No-one can agree who was in which bedroom with whom.

Historia
The boy has lived his whole life trapped within a book-choked chamber older than empires and larger than cities. The girl has been plucked from the outskirts of civilization to be trained as a librarian, studying the mysteries of the great library at the heart of her kingdom. They were never supposed to meet. But in the library, they did. Their stories spiral around each other, across worlds and time. This is a tale of truth and lies and hearts, and the blurring of one into another.

Historia
A century from now, thanks to a technology allowing instantaneous travel across light-years, humanity has solved its energy shortages, cleaned up the environment, and created far-flung colony worlds. The keys to this empire belong to the powerful North family - composed of successive generations of clones. Yet these clones are not identical. For one thing, genetic errors have crept in with each generation. For another, the original three clone "brothers" have gone their separate ways, and the branches of the family are now friendly rivals more than allies. Or maybe not so friendly....

Choppy - too many times, places, people
Revisado: 07-06-22
The story sometimes feels like the author decided he had lots of side stories about random characters and just threw them in the air with the main story and then stuck them in wherever they landed. It's very hard to follow. You are in one story and things are chugging along and all of a sudden you are in a completely different story about a new character on a different world at a different time. Really poorly done. Also the book could have been half as long if the author hadn't indulged his teenage fantasy self and went into ecstasy describing futuristic military weapons, vehicles and clothing. And then the stupid sex slave scenes are completely unessential to the story.

Historia
We are familiar with maps that outline all 50 states. And we are also familiar with the idea that the United States is an "empire", exercising power around the world. But what about the actual territories - the islands, atolls, and archipelagos - this country has governed and inhabited? In How to Hide an Empire, author Daniel Immerwahr tells the fascinating story of the United States outside the United States. In crackling, fast-paced prose, he reveals forgotten episodes that cast American history in a new light.

Sappy than most romances
Revisado: 02-19-22
I generally don't read romances and didn't realize from the description that is was one or that it was a religious tract. This could have been a good historical novel if they had stuck to the facts and skipped the lame and sappy Christian proselytizing and the "oh, look, I found a man to rescue me!!" storyline. Yuck.
