Kudos to Kirsten Potter for her performance. She tried valiantly to make Mandel's characters likable. But frankly, after suffering through 10+ hours listening to this novel, I couldn't care less about any of the myriad of characters in the book.

And what in the world was the point of the "Station Eleven" graphic novel? Various characters kept saying that they didn't understand it - I know exactly how they felt.

All in all, Station Eleven is an overrated novel made recently popular by the TV series (which was only made because of its tenuous connection to the COVID pandemic). If the premise of this novel seems interesting, watch the TV show. Skip the book.

First of all, Ric Jerron's performance is quite good, quite good indeed. He truly inhabits the main characters with pathos and deep compassion.

Second, the story: far more than your standard British contemporary Gothic take. The title suggests pre-Reformation history & in this, it does deliver... in quite compelling (if disturbing) terms. A dissolute and dishonoured architect trapped by the madness of a spectral force. His estranged brother desperately seeking to find and rescue this poor sod.

Definitely worth a listen.

My 2nd listen was even better than the 1st! This is a must read for anyone who likes to be spooked by a good old fashioned ghost story!

After watching three seasons of Netflix's The Crown, this breezy biographic radio documentary was delightful.

AF is not "about Stalinism." Addresses "post-truth," and names the evil from which it originates.

Halfway through, I ordered the Norton Critical Edition of Heart of Darkness because I knew that I wanted to re-read it, to study it, to plumb its depths. Kenneth Branagh's performance is sublime - as expected. He is certainly one of the few actors of our time whose candlelight derives its power and illumination from the fire of Olivier himself.

Excellent story: well-paced in that British sort of way. Simon Vance gives a superlative performance. He holds his own with the likes of the legendary voice actors Frank Muller and George Guidall. Well worth the price of admission.

To be honest, I didn't know what to expect before I "turned the first page." Stephen King's son, yada yada yada. It had gotten good reviews, but when I found out that the main character was an aging rock star with a finely curated collection of occult artifacts , I became wary. Would it be Jimmy Page? Geezer Butler? Surely, not Ozzy!

But Joe Hill surprised me. Fairly quickly, I saw past the superficial satanic schlock, which had fueled Judas (or Jude) Coyne's career as a heavy metal "artist." Strong character development of both Jude and his girlfriend Georgia combined with a compellingly creepy curse upon a dead man's suit launched me pell-mell into Hill's satisfyingly scary story. Couldn't stop listening. Well, I turned it off when the sun went down. Just to be safe. You never know about these things, right?
