Historia
At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.

Dean's narration was great, very personable. Just speed Anne up so she's talking like a normal human instead of a meditating spiritual guru, and you'll get through it!

Historia
ABC News reporter Genevieve Shaw Brown was hell-bent on raising her kids to like vegetables and eat more than chicken nuggets for dinner. She woke up at five am every morning to prepare perfectly portioned meals of turkey meatballs along with veggies, couscous, mashed cauliflower, and sliced fruit for her small children. Feeling sluggish and tired most of the time, she realized that she had never considered eating what she made for her kids. After that, Brown put herself on the "Baby Diet".

I usually like authors to read their own work, but not in this case. The advice is somewhat "common sense", but may not be realistic for many moms. The author clearly leads a privileged lifestyle.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

I can't say enough about this book!!!!! It was so interesting to me, someone who did not grow up like the author did, and I suspect it will be SO helpful for my boyfriend, who did. I hope the author knows how grateful his readers are to him for sharing his story. 💗 👍

Historia
David Sheff's story is a first: a teenager's addiction from the parent's point of view, a real-time chronicle of the shocking descent into substance abuse and the gradual emergence into hope.
Before meth, Sheff's son, Nic, was a varsity athlete, honor student, and award-winning journalist. After meth, he was a trembling wraith who stole money from his eight-year-old brother and lived on the streets. With haunting candor, Sheff traces the first warning signs, the attempts at rehabilitation, and, at last, the way past addiction. He shows us that, whatever an addict's fate, the rest of the family must care for one another, too, lest they become addicted to addiction.

Historia
Drawing on dozens of intimate audio interviews with families from all across the country, award-winning psychologist and writer Andrew Solomon redefines what it means to be an “ideal family” in America today. Solomon observes that America, led in large part by the women’s, civil rights, and gay rights movements, has undergone a radical social shift in the last few decades. Although the structure of family has changed, economic and legal structures lag behind and need to adapt to accommodate this explosive new reality.

Historia
Since Darwin's day, we've been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species. Mainstream science - as well as religious and cultural institutions - has maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man's possessions and protection were exchanged for a woman's fertility and fidelity. But this narrative is collapsing....

Long Winded But Some Good Ideas
Revisado: 10-13-18
Belabored the main point of the book, which is that humans are not biologically wired to be monogamous. But I also got some more varied, perhaps more interesting ideas in the last few chapters.

Author Is Brilliant!
Revisado: 12-21-17
I'd recommend this for anyone who is part of a couple, was part of a couple, or wants to be part of a couple again. Talks about a lot of perspectives and breaks erotic issues down in a helpful way that I don't think most of our cultures encourage us to think about otherwise. I will be buying more books by this author for sure!

I didn't enjoy the couple's story as much as some of the others, but the author's commentary on things she wished in retrospect that she had done differently was very interesting!
