Why is Miami… Miami? What does the heartbreaking fate of the cheetah tell us about the way we raise our children? Why do Ivy League schools care so much about sports? What is the Magic Third, and what does it mean for racial harmony? In this provocative new work, Malcolm Gladwell returns to the subject of social epidemics and tipping points, this time with the aim of explaining the dark side of contagious phenomena. Through a series of gripping stories, Gladwell traces the rise of a new and troubling form of social engineering

Broad correlation across multiple fields
Revisado: 11-30-24
I normally like to read his books, but this one felt a little thin. He had a lot of theories based upon some loose connectivity between a variety of ideas and the things that drive them, But it felt like it was a reach.
He also does not like Trump and essentially said that because he lives in South Florida he must be corrupt. I’ve not seen him be political and base his assumption on the fact that he lives in South Florida felt like another reach.
Most of the content in his book ran along those lines of a loose correlation between the facts and some outcome. This is one of the few misses that I felt like he’s had.

Historia
In 2029 the United States is engaged in a bloodless world war that will wipe out the savings of millions of American families. Overnight, on the international currency exchange, the "almighty dollar" plummets in value, to be replaced by a new global currency: the "bancor". In retaliation the president declares that America will default on its loans. With "Deadbeat Nation" being unable to borrow, the government prints money to cover its bills. What little remains for savers is rapidly eaten away by runaway inflation.

Atlas Shrugged perspective for our current fiscal situation
Revisado: 11-04-24
The author wrote a compelling book along the lines of Atlas shrugged. She showed a “what if”scenario of what we could face based upon our current physical, economic models that does not look good.
I think Ayn Rand would’ve been pleased with this book because it echoed a lot of her sentiments about over each of government and personal freedom. The book is very compelling and at same time chilling to read. What she suggested in 2016 has in some ways come true and is very prophetic.
I highly recommend the book!

Historia
The previous edition of this now-classic book revealed the existence and subversive manipulations of "economic hit men". John Perkins wrote that economic hit men (EHM) "are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder".

Interesting but with flaws
Revisado: 05-13-24
John had an interesting background as Economist for an American company. He admits that he did not have the mathematical chops and created inflated estimates to countries that relied upon them for budgets. He of course felt regret for his shading of the truth and eventually blames America, corporations and Christianity for all of the failings of the western world. He's a practicing shaman, yes that, and a lot of what he hoped for are early DEI and woke perspectives come true.
He is correct in that corporations and the US government are not trustworthy but he seems to cast everything else as part and parcel for his deception to the leaders he was tasked to help. In some ways he presents a very Marxist perspective the capitalism and the world. He believes that the female nature is the path forward and that male and probably white represent all that is flawed in the world.
This simplistic view is one of the things that has led us down this path that we are on now. His simplistic view that everything Americans do is bad and the others such as Hugo Chavis are good is a major flaw of the book and again based on a fundamental Marxist perspective.
Interesting history lesson but you have to wade through a lot Marxist drivel.

Serving as a powerful follow-up to Jordan Peterson’s book 12 Rules for Life, Dr. Gad Saad unpacks what is really happening in progressive safe zones, why we need to be paying more attention to these trends, and what we must do to stop the spread of dangerous thinking. A professor at Concordia University who has witnessed this troubling epidemic firsthand, Dr. Saad dissects a multitude of these concerning forces (corrupt thought patterns, belief systems, attitudes, etc.) that have given rise to a stifling political correctness in our society.

It’s refreshing to see someone address the insanity that we see around us every day. It’s clear and direct arguments of rational reason are so compelling and important. It’s sad that we have to even discuss some of these topics because of the insanity that we live in today.

Historia
In the early 2000s, as a Wall Street escapee writing a financial column for the Dallas Morning News, Booth attracted attention for her bold criticism of the Fed's low interest rate policies and her cautionary warnings about the bubbly housing market. Nobody was more surprised than she when the folks at the Dallas Federal Reserve invited her aboard. Figuring she could have more of an impact on Fed policies from the inside, she accepted the call to duty and rose to be one of Dallas Fed president Richard Fisher's closest advisors.

Historia
In the beginning was the loan, and the loan carried interest. For at least five millennia people have been borrowing and lending at interest. Yet as capitalism became established from the late Middle Ages onwards, denunciations of interest were tempered because interest was a necessary reward for lenders to part with their capital. And interest performs many other vital functions: it encourages people to save; enables them to place a value on precious assets, such as houses and all manner of financial securities; and allows us to price risk.

Historia
It has been proclaimed many times, but perhaps never more convincingly than now, when every news cycle seems to deliver further confirmation of a world gone mad. Is this the endgame? Author Spencer Klavan is a classicist, with a Ph.D. from Oxford, and a deep understanding of the West. His analysis: The situation is dire. But every crisis we face today, we have faced before. And we can surmount each one. Klavan brings to the West’s defense the insights of Plato, Aristotle, the Bible, and the Founding Fathers to show that in the wisdom of the past lies hope for the future.

What a great book.
Revisado: 03-13-23
I've told people for years that if you just look at people you engage with everyday you see they are not as bad as they appear in news or social media. When you walk into your local store or even in your neighborhood you are largely meet by decent and kind people. That's who we are as a nation. Yes there are jerks and sometimes your one of them but for the most part we are nation of caring people.
I always like to find something that I can take from a book and this gave me several great nuggets. States are important because they localize a group of people. More than likely most people in that state have their opinions and ideas that bring them together more so than the nation at large.
I had not realized that a triad government was the key to our republic based on the past states. It's one of the few types of governance that can take us out of the cycle of constant revolutions. Another one of many concepts that I will carry with me.
This is a gem that will stand the test of time.

Historia
Southern Afghanistan was slipping away. That was clear to then-Captain Rusty Bradley as he began his third tour of duty there in 2006. The Taliban and their allies were infiltrating everywhere, poised to reclaim Kandahar Province, their strategically vital onetime capital. To stop them, the NATO coalition launched Operation Medusa, the largest offensive in its history. The battlefield was the Panjwayi Valley, a densely packed warren of walled compounds that doubled neatly as enemy bunkers.

Historia
John Boyd may be the most remarkable unsung hero in all of American military history. Some remember him as the greatest US fighter pilot ever - the man who, in simulated air-to-air combat, defeated every challenger in less than 40 seconds. Some recall him as the father of our country's most legendary fighter aircraft - the F-15 and F-16. Still, others think of Boyd as the most influential military theorist since Sun Tzu. They know only half the story.
