A true living testimony!

This was my second time listening to Qureshi’s story. Now knowing the rest of his story I was even more impressed and inspired. An incredible testimony from a man who really did give his life to Jesus.

Historia
Four months have passed since the shadow stone fell into Kell's possession. Four months since his path crossed with Delilah Bard. Four months since Rhy was wounded and the Dane twins fell, and the stone was cast with Holland's dying body through the rift, and into Black London. In many ways, things have almost returned to normal, though Rhy is more sober, and Kell is now plagued by his guilt.

The readers make it hard to stick with the story
Revisado: 10-10-24
I’m having a hard time finishing this 2nd book. The narration is terrible! I appreciate having two readers but the reader for Kel’s story has 2 voices-ones for royals and the other for servants and both are a horrible “British” drawl. Lila’s reader is better but there’s too much emphasis in awkward parts of words or phrases. I would’ve preferred her do the whole book since she can at least do multiple voices. I really want to finish the series but not sure if I can take the readers that long

Brilliant!
Revisado: 12-02-22
Many have said this book was slow and too “wordy”. So I was hesitant. Soooo glad I listened anyway. This is not a pure action-packed super agent story. It’s almost an every-man story that’s a bit more cerebral. But there’s definitely no lack of action and suspense! Frankly this was refreshing because the typical Bourne-type books are getting too predictable. I recommend this one for a nice change of pace

How does someone summarize and explain Christianity in such a simple, logical and convincing way!!!! Scholars couldn’t have done better! And the reader’s voice was so enjoyable and soothing. Definitely one of my most favorite reads!

Disappointed in the storyline

I’m kind of surprised about the whole Muslim extremist angle. Seems unnecessary and fairly racist.

I love these little “episodes”. It’s been fun “watching” Sarah’s kids grow up, her detective skills get stronger and Jack and Sarah’s relationship grow closer. I’d love to watch this on tv one day. However I already have a picture in my mind of what the characters look like so I fear I’d be disappointed with the casting

Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

One of my all time favorites
Revisado: 05-13-15
This book was absolutely delightful to read. The writing was superb! Such a deep story without the cookie-cutter gimmicks to get on best seller lists. Truly a coming-of-age story lasting over multiple generations. No climactic ending but rather a beautiful story ending at a moment in time.
And the reading was so simple yet so powerful. It was calming and dramatic just at the right times.
I'm so looking forward to reading more books by Doerr

Historia
At 6:00 a.m. on the morning of October 3, 2009, Combat Outpost Keating was viciously attacked by Taliban insurgents. The 53 U.S. troops, having been stationed at the bottom of three steep mountains, were severely outmanned by nearly 400 Taliban fighters. Though the Americans ultimately prevailed, their casualties made it one of the war's deadliest battles for U.S. forces. And after more than three years in that dangerous and vulnerable valley a mere 14 miles from the Pakistan border, the U.S. abandoned and bombed the camp.

All I can say is "Wow"
Revisado: 06-13-13
First of all, please don't take my 3-star rating as a negative. This was an EXCELLENT book. An incredible and eye-opening view into the life of a soldier as well as the real story of what's going on in Afghanistan. I have much respect for our soldiers, but serious questions about the military leadership. In their defense, there is an ingrained culture where questions aren't asked and top brass is always right. It's very difficult to change that. But, as this book points out, that culture is causing our military and our country hundreds of lives and billions of dollars. Politics have taken over and it's quite frightening. What's even worse is how, after giving their lives to keep us safe, our soldiers are literally dismissed when they come home.
So why the 3 stars? Well for one, this is a long book describing battle after battle. For some it might be slow and boring, for others quite upsetting and for others still it can be exciting and suspenseful. Since we know what happens in the end, you really have to commit to the story. But what you're actually doing is committing to hear the soldiers' stories. If we don't listen to them, who will?
