Historia
Great ideas often come from a simple spark: A soccer player on the New Zealand national team notices all the unused wool his country produces and figures out a way to turn them into shoes (Allbirds). A former Buddhist monk decides the very best way to spread his mindfulness teachings is by launching an app (Headspace). A sandwich cart vendor finds a way to reuse leftover pita bread and turns it into a multimillion-dollar business (Stacy’s Pita Chips).

Nice summary
Revisado: 01-26-23
If you’ve listen to many of the podcasts, you’ll hear lots of repetition; however, it does serve as a nice summary and reminder of many of the highlights from those interviews. And for me, it was nice to listen to after I hadn’t listened to the podcast for quite a while. He also summarizes at the end, some of his interview techniques which I appreciated.

Historia
In 2016, the morning after Valentine's Day, Luke's son passed away from breathing issues complicated by congenital birth defects. He was 21 months old. And his name was Finnegan. This kind of loss is terrifyingly huge and scary, but the love and light in this story far outweigh the tragedy. Through comic-book metaphors, Shakespeare references, and lilting Irish brogues, Luke tells the story of his too-short time with Finn. This is his tribute to storytelling, parenthood, and his rosy-cheeked, blue-eyed baby boy.

Real and Worthy
Revisado: 11-03-20
This is a deep, personal and thoughtful biography. He hits upon many points that any parent with a child with a chronic or threatening or challenging health condition would do well to hear. And what a treat it would be for their friends to read this as well, just to have a glimpse of our lives. Thank you for sharing. You accomplished your goal of helping me at least.

Did you know that most of our dinosaur fossils were discovered because two grown men absolutely hated each other? It’s true! Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World is a riotous audio exclusive, like if Monty Python taught your history class. Each volume of four 30-minute histories will dig into the petty name-calling and grumbling grudges that led to many of the world’s greatest advancements, all delivered with a cheeky sense of humor. Choose sides: Cope or Marsh, the jerks who discovered so many dinosaurs; Hamilton or Burr, whose rivalry fueled American politics; and many more....

Historia
David Sheff's story is a first: a teenager's addiction from the parent's point of view, a real-time chronicle of the shocking descent into substance abuse and the gradual emergence into hope.
Before meth, Sheff's son, Nic, was a varsity athlete, honor student, and award-winning journalist. After meth, he was a trembling wraith who stole money from his eight-year-old brother and lived on the streets. With haunting candor, Sheff traces the first warning signs, the attempts at rehabilitation, and, at last, the way past addiction. He shows us that, whatever an addict's fate, the rest of the family must care for one another, too, lest they become addicted to addiction.

Applies to any family health struggle
Revisado: 07-05-19
Fantastic narrator. And the story, although tragic, is enlightening. I had a hard time putting it down. If you have any family health issue that keeps you awake at night, this is well worth the read. And if you want to know what to look for and how to prevent or deal with addiction this is a good starting place. I heard the movie was repetitive. This book is repetitive. But in a way that has meaning.

Historia
Drawing on dozens of intimate audio interviews with families from all across the country, award-winning psychologist and writer Andrew Solomon redefines what it means to be an “ideal family” in America today. Solomon observes that America, led in large part by the women’s, civil rights, and gay rights movements, has undergone a radical social shift in the last few decades. Although the structure of family has changed, economic and legal structures lag behind and need to adapt to accommodate this explosive new reality.

If you are interested in what it might not be like to be in a typical relationship.
Revisado: 01-29-19
I read a few reviews stating that this was not a good book. I can only imagine the people who wrote those reviews were ultra-religious, belenes marriage must only be between a man and a woman, and have no empathy for people who are not like them.
This is a great book about 30+ people in a variety of relationships, with and without children. It is also about children in these relationships.
One of the most interesting and saddening chapters was about the foster care system, but the author did a good job of giving positive and challenging examples of most scenarios.
Highly recommend everyone to read this book.

Excellent
Revisado: 12-18-17
Very interesting, sad and even humorous at times. I found it helpful in coming to grips with a family cancer diagnosis. I looked him up after listening and saw he died a couple years after this recording groom a car accident. Terrible to breast cancer and die from that.

Historia
Writer and political activist Mike Marqusee was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, in the summer of 2007. At first, disinclined to share his misery with others, he was reluctant to write about his illness. But he then came to realize that doing so provided a precious continuity with his life as a writer before contracting the disease, and a way of reaching out to a wider world that the illness made physically less accessible.

Last chapter the best
Revisado: 12-18-17
This book is primarily about protecting the a UK's NGA and the sad reality of the lack of such a humane system in the US. It is also an indictment of the shameful U.S. drug companies, financial institutions and politics aimed at getting rid of the NHS and preventing a similar system in the US.
This is not a book about the specifics of his illness and battle with cancer, although he does discuss it. The last chapter was particularly good.

Historia
Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson ( Pulp Fiction) rocks this mock bedtime story, capturing a hilarious range of emotions as the voice of a father struggling to get his child to sleep. Go the F**k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland.

I read all of these positive reviews and laughed the first couple of jingles, but then just got bored to tears. Just stupid really. And severely lacking in creativity. I don't believe the masses are laughing at this for a whole 3 minutes.
