Historia
They’ll do anything to protect her...as long as they never learn her secret. I’m Officer Essie Shaw, and I shouldn’t exist. If anyone finds out their friendly neighborhood beat cop is a nephilim - public enemy number one - I’ll be imprisoned. Or worse, dissected. I survive by keeping my head down and my barely there magic under wraps. But when I lose a fight with a strange, smoke-like wraith, I’m confronted with my worst nightmare.

Interesting concept, a little bit amateur writing though
Revisado: 04-21-25
The story was good, but I noticed several instances of amateur writing such as telling instead of showing as well as many repetitive descriptive words. Especially using the word ‘scream’ I remember in one chapter the authors used scream many many times. The audio performance was pretty good with two small criticisms. I thought Gideon’s voice was a little bit too nerdy/snobby sounding to be attractive or likable. And I thought the leading female character sounded a little bit too formal/bookworm sounding rather than the more relaxed slightly gritty voice you might expect with a police officer. But overall pretty good

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

My first time hearing the story
Revisado: 08-16-24
I’ve been working on reading more impactful books and finally got to this one. I listened to it on my 8 hour drives and the time flew by. What an intriguing look into a girl who’s more similar to an animal than to humans. My only dislike is that I’m still confused how she got him to meet her at the fire tower, i want to know all the details but maybe the mystery makes the book better
