Historia
Once again Michael Crichton gives us his trademark combination of page-turning suspense, cutting-edge technology, and extraordinary research. State of Fear is a superb blend of edge-of-your-seat suspense and thought provoking commentary on how information is manipulated in the modern world.

Not what I've come to expect from you, Michael
Revisado: 01-04-05
Michael Crichton's State of Fear is a mediocre story buried deep inside endless lectures on the misinformed, misdirected environmentalists and their baseless arguments with regard to global warming, toxins, forest conservation, etc. His book should have been a research paper, not something sold for entertainment. I wanted to quit halfway through, but stuck it out so I could review it online. This is a diatribe, not a novel. Just in case you didn't pick up on his point of view in the book itself, he continues in the same vein in an addendum. Ugh. Enough already, Michael! I buy you to be transported, not to be propagandized.
Some of the problems blamed on the narrator may be poor editing. There is an entire section where the "he said," "she said," "he thought," and other speaker clarifiers have a different sound, as though they were added later. There are a couple of places where a phrase is repeated, as though there were a splice, but not in the proper location. This is the worst editing I've experienced in an Audible book.
I read the reviews, but ignored them based upon past experience with Michael Crichton. Next time, I will pay attention.

Ever wish you can leave the rat race for the simple life? Here's some inspiration. On Mexican Time is Cohan's passionate, evocatively written memoir of how he and his wife found a new home - and a new lease on life - in the charming 16th century hill town of San Miguel de Allende.

Escape to Mexico
Revisado: 07-31-04
A perfect book if you want to escape to Mexico for a few hours to join a couple in love with the country, the culture, and each other. On Mexican Time is a journal of their journey from their first visit, to the commitment of buying a home, to becoming part of the lore of San Miguel de Allende. The author so detailed in his descriptions that he puts you in the colorful produce market and you can picture the relic of a house the first time they tour it.
This is not a guide book, but a romance novel that relates the author's growing affection for his new home. Like any romance, there are issues, but none that override his love for this special place and time.

Historia
In the Nevada desert, an experiment has gone horribly wrong. A cloud of nanoparticles (micro-robots) has escaped from the laboratory. This cloud is self-sustaining and self-reproducing. It is intelligent and learns from experience. For all practical purposes, it is alive. It has been programmed as a predator. It is evolving swiftly, becoming more deadly with each passing hour. Every attempt to destroy it has failed. And we are the prey.

Couldn't put it down
Revisado: 12-26-03
After a slow start, the book captured my imagination and wouldn't let go. The descriptions were so graphic that I easily saw everything in my mind. The idea is fresh and beautifully presented. This will be a gangbuster on the big screen.
