I enjoyed the story - an interesting concept and decent 'world building.' The narrator was just Ok, as said in other reviews, at times it sounded like he was 'phoning it in,' But the editing on this audio book is terrible! (In Chapter 8, I was sure my bluetooth signal was cutting in and out to my earpiece, but then I played a bit without the earpiece and realized that the 'cut outs' were actually in the recording!!! (Don't they have 'editors' who listen to these before publishing??)
I would buy another book by this author, however I would definitely listen a bit more carefully to the 'sample' of the recording, to see if it looks like they fixed the 'technical issues,' which brought my rating for this book down.

It's been a long time since I've had an audio book that I just couldn't 'put down.' I listen to stories at work, but this one went home with me last night and I listened until bedtime, then picked it back up this morning and finished this afternoon. This whole series is amazing and I can't wait to get to the next book.
Very impressed and highly recommended.

I've had the first book in this series, Football Sundae, in my wish-list for maybe a year and for some reason I just didn't buy it.
But then I saw this 'box set' with the first 3 books in the series and bought it instantly!!! And I'm So Glad I did!!!!
Daryl tells an amazing story - or 3 - filled with laughter, tears and everything in between!!!
These are some of the most 'real' MM fiction stories I've ever read (listened to), with characters that are well written and believable, with issues that don't seem 'overly dramatic" (some stories have issues just to have issues and I didn't feel that way with these stories). And the language used by this author somehow adds to the 'realness' of the stories and characters.
The duo-narrators also helps to bring the characters to life, the voices are just different enough so that you know who's speaking at the time, and the 'southern twang' of the narrators is spot on!!!

If you have been considering these books but haven't yet bought them, I highly recommend this collection! Nearly 30 hours of pure, unadulterated storytelling for one credit - how can you go wrong???

First, let me preface this review with a bit about myself. While Stephen King has been my favorite author for over forty years, I am not a big fan of the "horror genre." Honestly, the only reason I bought this book is because a few years ago I somehow began following the author, Patrick Reuman, on social media and, in that strange way that observing one's 'life' on FB for a time, we feel that we know that person,. So when Sadistic popped up on Audible's recommendations of titles I might like, much like some of the actions of the MC in this book, I just felt the need to go for it. It was well past time for me to finally check out my 'friend's' work. Oh, one other thing - I've been an avid reader since I was a 'kid' back in the late 70s, but in the last several years I've almost exclusively been listening to audio books (over 600 titles and a years worth of listening time logged on Audible), so I was waiting for one of Patrick's books to come out in the audio format.

Cyrus Barkley is a classic anti-hero. An average guy with an average family and an average, if not incredibly boring job, who 'snaps' one night and kills a man - and he likes it. So begins Cyrus' reign of terror. Cyrus does some horrible things and yet, as I listened to the story, I found myself rooting for him, rather than the "good guy," Detective Walter Huges, who is the lead investigator on the killings. I give kudos to Reuman for telling the tale in a way that made me hope that the "sadistic" serial killer would outsmart the cops and get away with his crimes - to the point where I was yelling back at the narration when Cyrus would do something stupid while committing murder, which, in classic anti-hero fashion he did occasionally, because I didn't want Hughes to find any evidence against Cyrus.
My only criticism of the book was in the narration - as I said above, I listen to LOTS of audio books and over the years I have become very picky about narrators (to the point that I cannot listen to my favorite author, King himself, narrating his own books...) and while Matt Godfrey did an OK job - his 'character voices' were well done - there was just something a bit monotonous about his performance.
For Reuman's first novel, I've got to say I'm impressed! If you're looking for a good story with plenty of twists and turns, you might want to give Sadistic a try. And now I'm patiently waiting for his latest book, A Place So Wicked, to be released on Audible...

Let me start by saying that I listen to LOTS of audio books and while I always rate the books I finish, I rarely take the time to write a review. That said, I couldn't resist sitting down to type this out!
I've listened to all of Lucy's Made Marion books, as well as this series and of all her books I've "read" this was my absolute favorite.
Being familiar with the characters of "Major" (aka "Grandpa") and "Doc" from the other books, having their story told, from their first meeting in Viet Nam in the late 1960s, to the hurdles they had to jump through to become and remain a couple, to their 50th anniversary together had me in tears throughout the majority of the story (I'm even welling up a bit now, as I remember their story to write this review!).
While this could be listened to as a 'stand alone' story, I would recommend listening to the other books in the series for the full effect of how the relationship between these two men have effected and influenced the younger members of the Wilde family. I would also recommend listening to Lucy's Made Marion books as well, as the two series exist in the same "world," with a few crossover characters between them.
Michael Dean, who narrates the books from both series, does an excellent job (and I'm extremely picky about narrators)! He is great at giving a distinctive voice to each character, from the rough and gruff, to the meek and mild.
While I give any of Lucy's books a high recommendation, this book goes above and beyond! If you're going to give any of her books a try, this is the one to choose!

As a Stephen King fan for decades, I was excited to download this book, which I'd read many years ago. I knew I'd enjoy the story and based on the sample, I really liked the sound of the narrator (a very important factor for me), but as i was listening, there were all these "jumps" in the recording. At first i thought it was a glitch in the Bluetooth earphones I use, so I switched to my Fire's speakers and discovered the glitches are in the recording itself! It wasn't horrible, just very annoying!!!
Other than that, an excellent book.
