Historia
Nothing good ever comes from drinking a box of wine alone. So when I decided to entertain my drunken self by setting up some hand-me-down podcasting equipment and reading the steamy parts from romance novels, I never thought anyone would actually listen. The fact that I admitted my huge crush on my sexy next door neighbor made the whole thing even more mortifying. But sometimes life surprises you, and that’s how my podcast, Heidi’s Discount Erotica, was born. Now I, Heidi Larsen, a sweet former kindergarten teacher in Waconia, Minnesota, lead a scandalous double life.

Cute and funny

Loved this! The heroine was really relatable. Also, it was so funny that I was cracking up helplessly at work. Definitely listen on headphones though if you’re not alone!

Historia
Unemployed at 29, Tess Monaghan is willing to take any freelance job to pay the rent—including a bit of unorthodox snooping for her rowing buddy, Darryl "Rock" Paxton. In a city where someone is murdered almost every day, attorney Michael Abramowitz's death should be just another statistic. But the slain lawyer's notoriety—and his noontime trysts with Rock's fiancée—make the case front page news...and point to Rock as the likely murderer. But trying to prove her friend's innocence could prove costly to Tess.

Enjoyed the local color
Revisado: 07-31-18
The characters are very Baltimore, as is the story. Wish that the narrator had verified all of her place name pronunciations, though - took me right out of the story to hear one butchered.

Historia
My name is Amelia Gray. I'm a cemetery restorer who sees ghosts. In order to protect myself from the parasitic nature of the dead, I've always held fast to these rules passed down from my father…until now. Detective John Devlin needs my help to find a killer, but he is haunted by ghosts who shadow his every move. To warn him would be to invite them into my life. I've vowed to keep my distance, but the pull of his magnetism grows ever stronger even as the headstone symbols lead me closer to truth and to the gossamer veil that separates this world from the next.

Interesting with some issues
Revisado: 06-28-18
I liked the story; the premise was well-considered and fairly well executed. Unfortunately the author deals in some awful stereotypes about suicide, and they were almost enough to make this a DNF for me. You could make the argument that it was the opinion of a character, except that what was said was accepted without argument or discussion and repeated later. It was awkward at best. Hopefully this sort of thing improves as the series develops. Looking forward to watching the heroine grow.

What is Clare Wingate doing? One minute she's suffering in a pretty-in-pink gown she'll never wear again, and the next thing she knows, it's morning and she has the nastiest hangover of her life. To make matters worse, she's wearing nothing but a spritz of Escada and lying next to Sebastian Vaughan, her girlhood crush turned sexy, globe-trotting journalist. Somewhere between the toast and the toss of the bouquet, she got herself into a whole lot of trouble.

Dated

This was written in 2006, and shows every bit of its age. The romance is well done, but she’s done better stuff overall elsewhere.

Historia
Luisa "Lu" Brant is the newly elected - and first female - state's attorney of Howard County, Maryland, a job in which her widower father famously served. Fiercely intelligent and ambitious, she sees an opportunity to make her name by trying a mentally disturbed drifter accused of beating a woman to death in her home. It's not the kind of case that makes headlines, but peaceful Howard County doesn't see many homicides.

Really captures early Columbia
Revisado: 12-09-16
I'm part of that first generation of kids who grew up in Columbia, back when it was surrounded by farmland and not just another suburb. The author, as always, has a fine eye for capturing the nuances of local culture and history, but the narrator makes several missteps in how she pronounces place names - and unfortunately those took me right out of the story. A Columbia native would know that Catonsville is pronounced like "Kate" and not "cat" for example. Still, overall a nice nostalgic listen for me.

Fun, engaging story with great narration. Don't expect much in the way of historical accuracy. Loved the heroine. A good bit of suspension of disbelief necessary because of the issues with historical accuracy.

Surprisingly good
Revisado: 02-27-15
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I enjoyed this book, it gives a male perspective on a romance in a believable way.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Make the hero a little more down to earth. He's a 1%-er, for sure.
Have you listened to any of Sebastian York’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Sure, would make a decent rom-com.
