Historia
Piper Bellinger is fashionable, influential, and her reputation as a wild child means the paparazzi are constantly on her heels. When too much champagne and an out-of-control rooftop party lands Piper in the slammer, her stepfather decides enough is enough. So he cuts her off, and sends Piper and her sister to learn some responsibility running their late father's dive bar... in Washington. Piper hasn't even been in Westport for five minutes when she meets big, bearded sea captain Brendan, who thinks she won't last a week outside of Beverly Hills. How bad could it really be?

Meh
Revisado: 11-06-23
It wasn't bad. Just, Romance is about the journey to the ending we all know is coming. This journey just wasn't something I could believe. If you like constant and descriptive sex scenes, these are great, actually. Just had a hard time with the time frame.
SPOLIERS*******
The whole five weeks and we're madly in love forever just didn't feel believable - the "enemies" to lovers was so fast. Jsut no real investment was required .

Historia
In the tourist town of Wharton, on the coast of Lake Superior, Tess Bell is renovating her old family home into a bed-and-breakfast during the icy dead of winter… As the house’s restoration commences, a shuttered art studio is revealed. Inside are paintings Tess’s late grandfather, beloved and celebrated artist Sebastian Bell, hid away for generations. But these appear to be the works of a twisted mind, almost unrecognizable as paintings she and others familiar with his art would expect.

Disappointed
Revisado: 07-21-23
I've actually really enjoyed most of her books so far. With the exception of the one about the tattoo guy, this one just seemed kind of phoned in.
The narrator has some stylings that get really irritating once you notice them. For example, she has the sort of breathy not quite Katharine Hepburn way of delivering lines, like everyone is breathing through the line and making it wavy hard to describe but if you heard it, you know what I mean.
I'm going to be addressing some spoilers, so do not continue if you have not read it and plan to read it and don't want spoilers.
*****SPOILERS*********
I am a little frustrated that in the conclusion we find out that one of the characters played a major part in the happenings that caused a haunting. And yet no one addresses it. They just kind of roll right over it. Also the thing with the dog at the end. A bit of a reach.
Gah.

Finally a book I don't want to return
Revisado: 02-23-23
It's been a while since I have had a book that didn't leave me annoyed. JoJo Moyes has done an amazing job creating characters that are imperfect and complex. Even Nisha, initially unlikable as she represents the entitled and superficial, becomes someone worth cheering on. Sam is so relatable - almost too accurate for me, as I could personally relate to a lot of her experience... pretty sure I worked for Simon at some point. Ugh. I don't know how she does it, but Moyes can take the everyday and usual and weave it into an engaging and original story. There are no throw away characters - they all feel real. I've had my fill of cloyingly sweet, precious, cutesy for cutesy's sake, stories - there's escapist and then there's just ridiculous - or yet another regency spin-off with a dark aristocrat who will never love again. This is good writing, and excellent narration by Daisy Ridley.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Worth it.
Revisado: 01-19-23
Context, that's a huge takeaway. Beyond the interviews and beyond a face on a tabloid or the TV, is a real human. Right up front this is NOT a self pitying vanity piece as the blurbs have said - and there is a great deal of context missing from the headlines about the book - (especially his comment about how many kills he had in Afghanistan. Its actually very solemn and not at all a brag)
It's too easy to discount his troubles with a snide "poor Prince" - easy, and lazy. The reason people don't want to read this book, and worse, criticizing without having read it, are the worst kind of people. They don't want to have anything presented that contradicts what they believe or want to be true.
What Harry is giving us here, which no one has, is perspective.
Even when he is talking about his brother, it’s from a place of really loving him. Just not understanding him or his behavior. He’s really not constantly slamming his family. In fact he's quite affectionate about them, and shows a side of Charles we could have appreciated seeing more often. Its not family bashing, it's sharing the frustration and fear when the RF wasn’t helping protect Megan.
What I got was a kid who’d suffered a great loss very publicly, and had to grow up under a microscope knowing he’s basically a spare part - but loving his family, missing his mum, and wanting to be a good husband and dad - and not have his family go through the same thing. It's admirable.
He doesn't owe anyone any explanations, and we are not entitled to know his experience. Still, he's sharing the POV ONLY he can have and has done something no other Royal has ever had the courage to do - be vulnerable and imperfect.
He and his family are owed an apology.
I'm glad he wrote it, and glad I read it.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

So good - Wanted more
Revisado: 02-18-22
This wasn’t exactly short book, and I could have listened to more. Really vivid characterization, great story., excellent narration. I read a lot of WWII books - fact and fiction - but this was another angle I’d not heard - post war blended with flashback, and a whole new area of interest - the Night Witches. I love stories of brave women of war and I’ve read a LOT about the SOE. The female Soviet pilots of WWII are a now a new area of intrigue. Kate Quinn does an excellent job!

A whole lot of build up to predictable ending
Revisado: 02-10-22
I really liked The Widow, even thought I had it figured out relatively quickly. And it didn’t help there was a similar formula for the villain here. In fact there was a lot of similarity. And if I had to hear anything from the protagonist along the lines of “I must protect my daughter” one more time I was going to scream. It started to feel like it was in every other paragraph - we get it. You need to protect your daughter. Just so melodramatic (and this is coming from a protective mom) It was just tedious and repetitive. Glad it was free.

A refreshing romance thats not about the romance
Revisado: 12-06-21
What a delight
There is romance but it’s in the background - the focus of the book is female friendship, and finding your feet when living your authentic self. Both the main female characters are well developed and relatable.
Excellent narration too!

Revisado: 01-22-21
I really want to like this book. The description sound an interesting but I will definitely be returning it. I owe her first pursue rushing home babe he redemption but it was very unsatisfying. It was just a difficult to rally around a person who lied about everything, was manipulative, and so self-absorbed. Her internal monologue is constant whiney questions or scheming. Everyone around here is very decent but I found her tiresome, and honestly, just kind of stupid.

Second narrator made it tough
Revisado: 02-19-20
The narration for Gillian was good, but the second narrator made me feel like a naughty primary student in the headmasters office - her male voices are not great. Almost gave up but the story was intriguing enough that I got through it.
There were a few times I wanted to yell “YES! you’re conflicted. We get it. Now move on. You don’t need to bring it up again.” Or “dummy!” - but that was a small thing and I was happily surprised by a lot of things. I’d still recommend it to fans of WWII fiction
