Interesting but…
Revisado: 02-26-23
Interesting story, but the author is not willing to take responsibility for her mistakes. I’m sure she’s a nice lady. She tries to do the right thing and has been through a lot.
I am an audiobook girl through and through but I would have enjoyed this more as a book. The production value is terrible. It’s like it was recorded on an iPhone and features many mispronounced words.

Historia
In December 2000, the Baltimore Sun ran a small piece about Wes Moore, a local student who had just received a Rhodes Scholarship. The same paper also ran a series of articles about four young men who had allegedly killed a police officer in a spectacularly botched armed robbery. The police were still hunting for two of the suspects who had gone on the lam, a pair of brothers. One was named Wes Moore.

Not as compelling as it could have been.

I think this story had potential, and the summary was super interesting and ultimately why I listened, but it never really lived up to its potential.

Historia
In this powerful true crime memoir, an award-winning identity theft expert tells the shocking story of the duplicity and betrayal that inspired her career and nearly destroyed her family. Axton Betz-Hamilton grew up in small-town Indiana in the early '90s. When she was 11 years old, her parents both had their identities stolen. Their credit ratings were ruined, and they were constantly fighting over money. This was before the age of the Internet, when identity theft became more commonplace, so authorities and banks were clueless and reluctant to help Axton's parents.

Slow start, VERY anti-religion
Revisado: 10-22-20
The book started slow but I decided to stick with it because the summary was so compelling! Several chapters in, the author goes to a private school and the book becomes less about identity theft and a lot about bashing non-catholic religion. Hard pass.

Historia
Born and raised in a small Oregon town, all-American girl Rebecca Bender was a varsity athlete and honor-roll student with a promising future. Then a predator pretending to be her boyfriend lured her into a web of lies that sent her down a path she never imagined possible. For nearly six years, Rebecca was sold across the underground world of sex trafficking in Las Vegas. She was branded, beaten, told when to sleep and what to wear, and traded between traffickers. During that time, God began revealing himself to her.

Great story, with a few minor issues.
Revisado: 02-09-20
Loved the message and story of this book. Here are a couple things I take issue with:
- Several times the author mentions other women’s weight in a degrading way when it’s totally unnecessary. Example at one point she mentions one of the phone girls is overweight... why? Not part of the story, so don’t mention it.
- Champ and Boss Bailey are brothers, but they are NOT twins. The editor should have caught this.
Truly a great story!!
