Language and community
Revisado: 04-13-25
This book has the 1984’s vibe and “The Dispossessed” atmosphere but adds something unique to its story, the power of language, the shaping of reality, the propaganda. I enjoyed reading this book!

Interesting, but not what I was expecting
Revisado: 04-11-25
I read the 3 books in a row, in 10 days, it was that good. I enjoyed the change in perspective and of point of view from characters, the plot grew more and more complex, but this last book was really about the grassroots movement and I wasn’t expecting that, it got a bit confusing and maybe over complicated? It was nice to read a story set in a world where being non-binary is respected by everyone and it’s not a big deal, no hate speech or violence around this topic, just people being people.

Magic marked Miles Singer for suffering the day he was born, doomed either to be a slave to his family's interest or to be committed to a witches' asylum. He went to war to escape his destiny and came home a different man, but he couldn't leave his past behind. The war between Aeland and Laneer leaves men changed, strangers to their friends and family. Even after faking his own death and reinventing himself as a doctor at a cash-strapped veteran's hospital, Miles can't hide what he truly is.

Absolutely brilliant!
Revisado: 04-02-25
I didn’t have a lot of expectations about this book, it was suggested by AI, similar to other books I have read this year and, well, included in my audible subscription, so why not? Little did I know that it would be one of the best books I have read this year! Well paced, well written, well narrated, the climax was beautiful and breathtaking, the romance was good and seasoned the plot but it wasn’t the plot, great characters (I wish I knew more about Robin), and background story. Great character development, as well. I am jumping straight to “Stormsong”!

Being immortal is not all it once was. Yes, the 12 Greek gods of Olympus are alive and well in the 21st century, but they are crammed together in a London town house: and are none too happy about it. Even more disturbing, their powers are waning.

Historia
Meet Roger. Skilled with words, languages come easily to him. He instinctively understands how the world works through the power of story. Meet Dodger, his twin. Numbers are her world, her obsession, her everything. All she understands, she does so through the power of math. Roger and Dodger aren’t exactly human, though they don’t realize it. They aren’t exactly gods, either. Not entirely. Not yet. Meet Reed, skilled in the alchemical arts like his progenitor before him. Reed created Dodger and her brother. He’s not their father. Not quite. But he has a plan.

One of the best books I’ve read this year
Revisado: 11-23-24
Wow! What a journey.
It started confusing, but not to the point of annoyance, it got better when I was situated, and it kept keeping better and better. There are so many layers to the story, concepts, symbols, narratives, math and language, it’s complex, it’s a complex adventure story, not scientific or anything. I loved it. Great character development, great climax that held up to the end. Entertainment at its finest.

Although this is a YA fantasy novel, the main plot is profound and full of wisdom, I wouldn’t expect anything less from Ursula, nonetheless this book surprised me. It’s a great and smooth read, that will make you think.

From the menacing vision of a red umbrella, to the ominous atmosphere of the Laughing Mountain; from the waking dream of virtual working to the sinister games of the locked room . . . this is a fascinating insight into the spine-chilling voices working within China today-a long way from the traditional expectations of hopping vampires and hanging ghosts.

Historia
In 1940, David Sparsholt arrives at Oxford to study engineering, though his sights are set on joining the Royal Air Force. Handsome, athletic, charismatic, he is unaware of his effect on others - especially on Evert Dax, the lonely son of a celebrated novelist who is destined to become a writer himself. With the world at war, and the Blitz raging in London, Oxford nevertheless exists at a strange remove: a place of fleeting beauty - and secret liaisons. A friendship develops between these two young men that will have unexpected consequences as the novel unfolds.

The writing is a delight, the subtlety of the relationships in the books, specially between father and son, were described in a rich and touching way. Reading it till the end sometimes felt like a chore, for me it was like listening to jazz music, I love it but I cannot listen to it the whole day. Overall this book is a treasure.
