I'm not sure what to think
Revisado: 02-06-25
I never trusted the narrator, and still don't. The family relationships were written too much like significant other relationships...it made me a little ick. I'm not even sure I understand the ending. I think I just don't "get it".

I cried a lot during this book. And yelled. I'm not really that emotional, but this book brings it out I guess. An incredible series.

Amazing story, hard to quit listening
Revisado: 12-23-23
This is my first Sarah Maas book and it made me a fan. The story is very intriguing. The main character is smart and witty, not dull, dumb, making horrible decisions like most female characters I've read about lately. I love this series!

Historia
Opal is a lot of things—orphan, high school dropout, full-time cynic and part-time cashier—but above all, she's a determined to find a better life for her younger brother Jasper. One that gets them out of Eden, Kentucky, a town remarkable for only two things: bad luck and E. Starling, the reclusive nineteenth century author of The Underland, who disappeared over a hundred years ago. All she left behind were dark rumors—and her home. Everyone agrees that it’s best to ignore the uncanny mansion and its misanthropic heir, Arthur. Almost everyone, anyway.

Loved the book, such a great story!!
Revisado: 11-03-23
I love not having to follow a long winding series for once, but this book really does have everything you could want. No sappy romance, I really don't get into that. This book has just the right amount.
It also feels very real. Like this maybe, possibly, could happen.
I did not like the narrator. Not so much that it threw me off, just thought I should include it. She was very sharp, but breathy. Just weird.

I devoured this within a few days. It is gripping!
Revisado: 08-23-23
I loved the story, and the narration. I've honestly been a little tired of all the recent narration I've heard lately, so this was such a treat.
The story was fascinating.
I don't want to spoil- STOP READING IF YOU DONT WANT A SPOILER- but I have to agree with a few other reviewers- there is some slight victim blaming here. I also think it's honest blaming, it doesn't lead you to have the same opinion, it just happens.
My opinion is firm in that a 42 yr old has absolutely no business with a 16 yr old, period! And anything that happens between them is more than likely grooming and manipulation on his part. This lady needed/needs serious help, and so do her children.

Historia
Before Elloren Gardner came to possess the White Wand of myth, the Wand was drawn to another bearer: Sagellyn Gaffney. Sage’s affinity for light magery, a rare skill among Gardnerians, makes her the perfect protector for the one tool that can combat the shadows spreading across Erthia. But in order to keep the Wand safe from the dark forces hunting for it, Sage must abandon everything she once knew and forge a new path for herself...a dangerous course that could lead to either triumph or utter ruin.

Loved the story of Sage!
Revisado: 08-15-23
I enjoyed this so much, I couldn't stop listening, and became a little obsessed. I wish for more of Sage, I hope the last book has more of her inside. This proves the author CAN write a strong female character. I love her so much more than Elloren.

Historia
Magic, romance, and adventure collide in Wandfasted, the irresistible prequel to The Black Witch: When they painted Heretics on our barn and set fire to it, I thought that was the worst it could get. Until they sent the dragons. But they didn't count on us having dragons of our own. And they certainly didn't count on Her. Our Great Mage. The Bringer of Fire. The Storm of Death. The Crow Sorceress. Our Deliverance. The Black Witch.

loved the story, don't mind the narration. The characters are well written, and so is the overall story. I really hope we can read more about Eloran's parents in the future. I know how their story ends, but I want to know more!

Historia
A Great Winged One will soon arise and cast his fearsome shadow upon the land. And just as Night slays Day, and Day slays Night, so also shall another Black Witch rise to meet him, her powers vast beyond imagining. So foretells the greatest prophecy of the Gardnerian mages. Carnissa Gardner, the last prophesied Black Witch, drove back the enemy forces and saved her people during the Realm War. Now a new evil is on the horizon, and her granddaughter, Elloren, is believed to be Carnissa's heir—but utterly devoid of power in a society that prizes magical ability above nearly all else.

I was hooked within minutes. Such a good story!
Revisado: 07-18-23
I hate that I'm just now discovering this series, it's amazing. I love the intricate stories woven in.
My only critique is the author's use of the phrases "clear up", "clear to", "clear past". I can't believe this wasn't edited out, it makes me cringe every time I hear it- and you hear it- A LOT! Maybe 50 times.
Even with this, I highly recommend!

Very hard to hear
Revisado: 06-02-23
I think I would enjoy this book much more if I didn't have to constantly rewind 30 seconds so I can hear and understand what's going on. The narrator voices make listening very difficult.
And the BONUS story is a joke. I can't follow along. I hope I don't need to know the details because I'm skipping it all together. It's the worst narration I've ever heard, maybe because it's "free"?
