Kelly's summer in Fort Connor, Colorado, is off to a great start with knitting classes taught by her friend Barb. But while the advanced stitches are giving Kelly the slip, a more deadly problem soon has her friend coming apart at the seams.

The narration is awful! The speaker goes from automaton narrator, to an array of unbelievable character voices. The storyline, if you can call it that, rambles from the issue of a woman’s claim of sexual assault, to climate change issues, protection against UV related skin cancer, relationships, softball, adoption, yarn and knitting, a constant stream of coffee, and a dog’s fixation with a squirrel. Choose a subject and character to develop! It’s exhausting to listen to this.

Historia
Fairy tale fever has descended on New York City. Broadway fans are flocking to Red Riding Hood: The Musical; museums are exhibiting art inspired by the Brothers Grimm; and Clare Cosi gives her coffee truck a "Jack and the Beanstalk" makeover for a Central Park festival. Clare's coffee hunter ex-husband contributes a bag of African beans with alleged magical properties, and his octogenarian mother entertains customers with readings of the grinds. But Clare remains skeptical.

Really, really bad!
Revisado: 12-11-14
Would you try another book from Cleo Coyle and/or Rebecca Gibel?
Probably not
What was most disappointing about Cleo Coyle’s story?
The author's idea of "fantasy". What's the most boring narrative ever--listening to someone describe a dream in excruciating detail! Yet Coyle takes the reader through convoluted and mind-numbing details of three psychic dreams brought on by drinking coffee from "magic" coffee beans. Seriously, my suspension of disbelief was lost back at "magic"!
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Rebecca Gibel?
Someone whose voice seems consistent with a strong, NY savvy entrepreneur. The sweet, breathless young voice of Claire sounds more like it belongs to her twenty-something daughter than a mature woman.
What character would you cut from Once upon a Grind?
No one in particular
Any additional comments?
The coffee grind series is something I enjoy as super-light reading, so the bar is not set very high for plot and character construction. Sorry to say this last book missed the bar completely.
